would this be worth while to investigate or is it a stupid idea and i should come to my senses....? i'm lookin for the senior's input on it,
thanks yall
munkis 01-12-2005, 07:00 PM year, cost, condition?
100k is not alot of miles for a scooby
quentinberg007 01-12-2005, 08:11 PM It sounds like the perfect candidate if you are looking for a motor swap too. That many miles should drive the cost below $10k, I'd imagine.

legacy2003 01-12-2005, 08:58 PM looks like a decent deal for 8500. its an 01, which is always nice, and a sedan :C). to compare, i picked up my 00 sedan w/34k on it and in not as good shape as the one you posted for 11700 before taxes and registration. however, dealer pictures are deceiving. 100k is barely broken in for that car. the only thing you should worry about is whether its ever been beaten on. it has a new clutch, so that's one thing you won't have to worry about.
RS22b 01-12-2005, 09:26 PM car looks like its in decent shape from the pic. Go check it out yourself. Seems a lil steep for the miles and year of the car, but none the less still decent.
See if ya can get him a lil lower on the car if you like it. Try $7500 first and see what he says. I wouldnt pay anymore than what he is asking for on any RS like that.

munkis 01-12-2005, 09:28 PM Doh, I didnt see there was a link.
Not to bad, looks clean, 01 is a good thing. that many miles on an 01 probably means quite a bit of highway or long trips, thats always good.
Jay
jetfan2207 01-12-2005, 09:45 PM The price seems a little steep, but I looked it up in the Kelley blue book and the retail value is $11,395, and the private party value is $9,085. As stated before, I would go in with a number below the asking price. Is this a private seller or is it a dealer? Because the pic looks like it's at a house, but the contact info is for a dealer. I suggest looking under the hood, maybe seeing how dirty the oil is (as a guage if the guy kept up with it) and other types of quick things.
Hope that helps,
Steve
Subie Gal 01-12-2005, 11:36 PM my 01 has 93k on it....
with new short block, timing belt, alternator, and more at $55k
Best to check the service records if they are available...
it may be a hell of a deal :D & like mine... gobs of Hwy Miles
I wouldnt sell mine for less than $14k as is right now - high mileage and all.

Boxologist 01-13-2005, 03:33 AM price defintely hinges on if the gaskets and timeing belt have already been changed. figure that to be an immediate cost.
RexSex 01-13-2005, 08:48 AM Isn't that an interesting co-incidence. I was about to send a post asking about ME buying a 100k 2.5RS. Maybe I can get a little advice too while everyone is here (I don't know a lot about Subies at such high mileage):
It's a 2000 2.5RS. It has 180,000km (about 112,000 miles) on it. Nice alloy rims (dark grey). Comes with a 2 year wty (woo!). And it was pretty fast for a 165hp AWD car. I've managed to bring the dealer down to $10,250CDN (11,700 after taxes = about 9,750US).
So first, what do you guys think. And more importantly (since you have already answered most of that question already), what questions should I ask? What should I look/listen for in the car?
And by the way...omg! a SUBARU GIRL?? That is too hot.
Haven't met a girl who is into Subies, much less RACES THEM! (are you married?). And hey...you found "Burnsie" in my homecity, Calgary!

GC84ever 01-13-2005, 08:33 PM Looks to be an awesome deal.
As long as it passes tech inspection and history check. I would get it.
RexSex 01-14-2005, 12:36 AM lol...well if you ever want to give him up, Im willing to take over.
....Im talking about you selling "Burnsie". lol.
Also, you need a new web designer. Your website info and pics are very good, but the layout needs some serious overhauling. Do you get enough traffic for it to be worth the time and effort?
RexSex 01-14-2005, 12:41 AM By the way: You say that racing is very expensive. Im considering going into racing, but I don't know what the costs are like. How hard is it to find sponsors, donor cars, and how much does upkeep/entry into races cost generally per month/year. How much is covered by sponsors, and is racing at all profitable (other than the psychological profit)?
How long would it generally take to get recognized? And I would assume that finding a good team of mechanics/trainers/etc is not easy to come by? Anything else I should know, other than hope that I've got some talent in these bullox of mine?
Thanks for the advice.

racing is HELLA expensive
see my rally faq - <<<click here>>> (http://www.subiegal.com/sgracing/rally_faq_page.htm)
a tiny little local event:
$400-500 entry fee
$300+ tires
$200 brakes
$150 lodging (driver and crew)
$140 gas (tow vehicle/race car)
$100 food (driver and crew)
and that's in driving distance from my house
sponsors?
good luck getting any and when and if you do?
good luck getting MONEY from them...
there are many different levels of sponsorship
and all of them take countless hours of hard hard work to obtain
Rally Racing is not profitable in any way, shape or form
Nascar - yeah... but rally? nope.
There is no purse money. No prizes. No rewards... just good old fashion fun :D
Crew...
it is very hard to find good, talented crew
when you do, dont give them up. ever.
the expenses are astronomical
but if you are determined... you can make it happen.
I... yeah.. I would be determined :) broke.... but determined

JDM_Scobaru 01-15-2005, 12:51 AM id hit it;)
RexSex 01-15-2005, 07:37 AM Well...I don't know if Im going to go pro, but I have decided to take a winter/ice driving course, the slalom course and the rally track course (about $200CDN each) just to get an idea of where I stand in terms of talent. I drive like a maniac, and do all sorts of crazy stuff...stuff my friends ask how I managed to do. I know Im not a bad driver, but to be honest, I cannot know for sure where I stand unless a pro tells me.
At the very least, it would be a very good learning experience. For example, and I know this should be TOTALLY obvious, but he explained to me that AWD is NOT a saftey feature...rather it is a PERFORMANCE feature. It is fantastic in terms of accelerating from a stop or taking a corner from slow speeds (in daily driving), but it does very little in terms of safety in such situations (unless a massive truck is coming barreling at you from behind, and you are in a snow pile and need to get the hell out!). But in terms of turning and stopping in an everyday emergency situation while driving at mid/higher speeds...AWD cars are almost the exact same thing as any other car.
Other things I found out are like that 100% of tire traction is always divided between accelerating, braking and turning, and this needs to be taken into account at high speeds. These things are all really interesting, and I sort of knew in the back of my mind while I come flying at a corner at 150km/hr, but now that it has been put into systematic words, things are so much clearer!
Anyways...just wanted to vent my excitement a little. The school I found is small and affordable, but the guys seem to know their stuff (I hope).
Anyways...I'll keep you posted :-P
Subie Gal 01-15-2005, 10:55 AM please :) keep me posted - shoot me an email anytime....
jamie@subiegal.com :)
and remember... the trick to AWD performance driving
(seriously)
when in doubt (or trouble) GAS GAS GAS
cheers
