I'm the "technical expert" ( ) and co-driver for my friend who is planning on running his STi in either AS or ESP this season.
We were originally planning on running in AS, with a front swaybar and 255/40/17 Victos. However, due to the fact that in our region AS is dead and ESP looks to be hoppin with AWD cars this year we're considering jumping to ESP and putting a matched set of swaybars and some camber plates on the car.
We know people have run the 255 tires on a stock 04 STi (the Fines, I think) but I'm wondering if adding camber plates will cause any fitment issues. I'm not sure what brand of camber plates but I know we'll be getting them from ChrisW so maybe he'll chime in.
TIA,
Paul

The Fine's managed to shove 275s V710s on the stock 04 wheels, but only in the front and only with a LOT of effort, no clearance in the back. Watching Larry and the Kumho guys try to get those tires mounted was something else out at Topeka and I know Hoosier Tom flat out said he couldn't do it at the Oscoda Pro the first day they had the tires (Kim and Larry picked the tires up in Akron on the way to Oscoda almost the first day they were legal). You could drop him a line to be sure or someone else might know but I THINK they had 255s on the back with no clearance problems in AS. Given the open rims and suspension of ESP it should be no problem at all getting clearance for 255s or MUCH bigger all around, budget is another story. I know Tom floated the idea of 315s at one time on their new ESP ride.

Thanks for the input. This would still be on the stock wheels since he's already bought Rotas and nice all-seasons for everyday tires.

I ran 255/40/17 VictoRacers on the stock 7.5inch rim last year with Tein Flex coilovers lowered about 1.5 inches and -3 degrees of camber in the front and -1 degree in the rear. I got rubbing on the wheel wells in the front and I rubbed the tire against my spring perches and my Perrin rear sway bar. Nothing to serious though. But since you are still running the stock struts/springs, you may have more clearance issues b/c they are bigger in diameter than my Teins I think.

Absolutely no isues at all on a stock suspension STI and stock wheels.

I'll shut up now lest I give paulC any unnessesary motivation. http://forums.nasioc.com/ubb-files/smilies/lildevil.gif
To be precise, these tires will be mounted on the stock rims. So again, are there any fitment issues? I don't believe there is, but if someone could chime in to confirm that would be great.

boxerT has confirmed above that they fit. He ran with those on a few occasions in AS last year.

Can anyone confirm 255s on 05 STi with stock suspension? I see they are confirmed for an 04.

275/40/17 on the front and 245/45/17 on the rear for the Fines.
IMHO on the 05 STi, 275s should fit all around with stock struts/wheels.

Thanks for all the good feedback guys!
I don't think Chris will have to worry about us, we're just out to have fun. Although, I've found I drive the fastest on "fun days" and the slowest on competitive days like Nat. tours. Go figure.
