Hey, does anyone mess around with the Brats anymore.
Any interesting engine swaps to replace the 1.8 N/A slug ?
Maybe a 2.5 Turbo or something...

Do a search in the members gallery... there's a Brat w/ a v8 swap somewhere. I wish my home internet connection was fast enough for me to find it for you. :(

Also.... you may want to check out the USMB (http://www.usmb.net). They're always cooking something up with old-skool Scoobies.

Edit: BTW ( That ^ is a link ;) ) and... by v8 I meant version 8, not v8 as in 8 cylinders) Hope I don't sound condesending in case you already knew that. :x

That guy did some awesome work, and 10 sec. to boot !
I thought about making mine rwd and taking a fi 2.8 v6 & trans
out of an '85 or so Camaro. I think the narrow 2.8 would fit nicely,
and would be relatively easy to mod. A newer 3.4 would fit
just as well. Has anyone tried a 2.5 turbo engine in a brat yet ?
Does it bolt in ? The wiring would have to be completely redone
in any case,but its doable.

Could you post a link ?
I was only considdering the 2.8 or 3.4 liter GM drivetrain because of the smaller size of the 60 degree V6, and the fuel injection. It would make for some super easy and relatively cheap mods...

hiya yall!
i`m a newbie to forums, found ya looking for master rebuild kit for my 1.6 79 brat. discovered the cheapest place for my parts is well over 600.00 usd. so, having a yard full of old chevys and a ****load of tools, i will adapt a smallblock auto and omit 4wheel drive. i have a welding/fabracation shop at my disposal, have the time, have the money. lack subaru knowlege, i`m an old heavy equip/chev guy. i use this brat for every damn day driving including the trips to the bighorn mountains, elk hunting/fishing/panning gold/ and walmart to replace the lures i sacreficed to the water demons. it will also take me back and fourth to work, this wyoming town is big on 4x4 trucks, big 4x4 gas guzzlers, sure, its a cool truck, but can it shoot up the mountain on a four day weekend for all the friends to drive including their kids while we are asleep, and still bring us back to the valley below, (15miles)? i`ve seen burbons fail, long wheel base 4x4`s, cars don`nt even get close! i would appreciate any/all hints/tweaks and espeshally any advice on weight transfer, balance, and most importantly, how the body might flex. i enjoyed reading this forum for several hours after i stumbled to it, you all got some awesome tech advice scattered about, well worth the read.. so, rust free, tight body, can make chassi, got any tips? -<yaricov@yahoo.com>
