I just got my 2002 WRX this week and want to install my system from my old car. I have 6x9 infinity kappas that I have been very pleased with. After I bought the car i checked out the trunk to see if I could custom them in above the rear seats. Luckily I noticed that Subaru already has the bolt on capability for them in the trunk. My question is if anyone has taken advantage of this and if so what kind of extension or box did you use? Flush mounting is not an option and getting rid of those dumb 5's they put in the rear door's will solve having to dynamat the doors.

i installed MB quart 6x9" on the rear deck of my WRX. To me it was worth the enhanced sound over 4" in the door, but to others it may not be worth the work.

good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.

I saw a car the other day that did something similar (It was a BMW, not a Subie). Instead of cutting the metal in their car, they added MDF spacers under the speakers so that the cross section through the rear deck was smaller, and it would fit the holes already there.

It's not quite as 'clean' looking from the inside, but definitely less scary from the point of hacking up your car.

that would have been a nice route too. It would give the speaker slightly better bass response due to the density of the MDF, a nice vinyl job on it would have mad it show quality.
