i just wonder these 450 whp STI owners....is the OEM air flow meter enough to do such kind of power??

View Full Version : air flow meter question~~~ skyline31 01-23-2005, 11:37 PM i just wonder these 450 whp STI owners....is the OEM air flow meter enough to do such kind of power?? davidm_sh 01-24-2005, 01:24 AM From my calculations the stock MAF sensor on the STi maxes out at 300.0g/sec which is roughly 40lbs/min of airflow which is about 400hp. After that point you need to go to a larger MAF diameter tube, a EMS that is based off of the MAP sensor for load calculations, or to a point this can be worked-around/solved by using a EMS solution such as the UTEC which uses an end-user adjustable map based off load from the MAP sesnor. Tuning Factory Inc. 01-24-2005, 02:39 AM I've made about 390 WHP before it gets maxed out in the stock housing. a 3.25 inner diameter housing I can get just over 500 WHP out of. On a 3.5 inch housing I should be able to get 575-600 WHP out of. The MAF is fine, you just have to have the right size housing for what you want to do is all. Invisiguard 01-24-2005, 03:43 AM anyone have a 3" ID housing? calib17a 01-24-2005, 04:54 AM Where can we get an aluminum MAF mounting plate to weld on to a larger diameter pipe such as 4" in diameter since I plan to fabricate that size intake to accomodate the 4" inlet of my gt35r? Physics Junkie 01-26-2005, 06:41 PM calib17a--you have PM. I have exactly what you need for sale. Tuning Factory Inc. 01-26-2005, 09:53 PM I also carry them in stock in aluminum if you like. Invisiguard 01-27-2005, 12:14 AM I also carry them in stock in aluminum if you like. hey I'll get a couple of those, I like the one on your intake I have but need a 3.25" now;) horshack 01-27-2005, 11:59 AM I also carry them in stock in aluminum if you like. Hey God, What size housings do you have in stock????? This may keep me from fab-n some up! blinguskahn 01-30-2005, 04:48 PM Hey God, What size housings do you have in stock????? This may keep me from fab-n some up! I know that Perrin has a BigMAF tube that is 40% larger and PDX tuning has done flow tests that show it flows 22% more air. Tuning Factory Inc. 01-30-2005, 06:25 PM Well the area of the tube does not mean that much increased capacity on the MAF so that is understandable. The curve is not linear on the MAF voltage so don't think if ou doubled the area of the MAF housing that you will get double the HP capacity because that is most definately not the case. I discovered this very quickly when experimenting with different MAF housings. |
