View Full Version : Solberg Limited Edition Print
cwareing 01-24-2005, 01:59 AM http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/877801/Prints001.jpg
Just putting this out there for the VIC members to see if there is any interest. I was wondering if you guys were interested in a group buy of a limited edition Petter Solberg 2003 Rally of GB print. Since shipping one print costs the same as shipping 6 or so, we could save some money. The above picture is in my apartment, I had it professionally matted and framed, and it looks awesome. Keep in mind that this buy does not include the matting or the picture frame, just the print. I have 3 prints from this artist, Jeff Norton. He is a really cool guy from England and is really into racing. He does sell his prints on eBay, his username is jnpaint if you want to look him up. He also has a website listed below.
Here is a description of this print.
'On top of the world' a limited edition art print depicting Petter Solberg in his Subaru Impreza WRC2003 on the 2003 Wales Rally GB. His dominant win clinching his first World Rally Championship. The print measures approx 50 cm. by 37 cm. and is signed and numbered by the artist, Jeff Norton member of the guild of motoring artists, in pencil on the 1.5 cm white border.
http://www.motorart.co.uk/gallery_jeff_norton.html
Basically, each 37cm by 50 cm Solberg Print will cost about $35. He has other rally prints too, including a 1994 McRae Subaru Print, and others.
I could post pics of other prints he sells if there is interest. They are a cool piece of memorabilia to own, and they look good hanging up.
What do you guys think?
Chris
cwareing 01-24-2005, 02:22 AM here is the 1994 Subaru Colin McRae print.
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-11/877801/Prints003.jpg
'Making a Splash' a new fine art print depicting Colin McRae in his works Subaru Impreza on the Chatsworth stage of the 1994 RAC Rally.
Is that a custom size print? I hate how it costs so much for a good frame. Otherwise I'd be on it!
cwareing 01-24-2005, 03:31 AM the McRae print is 23.25" by 16.6", and I just put mine into a $10 clip frame from IKEA, as you can see in the above pic. From my experiences, its easy to find cheap frames, at flea markets or value village, but the expensive part is paying to get a frame shop to cut a custom mat to match the print and the frame size., like in my Solberg picture above. That cost me $30. I still think its worthwhile to get these limited edition prints, they are way better than having car posters in your room
cwareing 01-24-2005, 02:33 PM ttt
Just to give you an idea of how much his prints normally sell for, Jeff advertises the same Solberg print on Scoobynet for 22 GPB plus shipping, which is about $50 CDN + shipping.
http://shop.scoobynet.co.uk/Product.asp?ProductID=1005
If we get 6-10 guys interested, it should be around $35 including shipping.
I guess I should also mention that I'm not making any money on this, the cost is the exact cost of the print plus a portion of shipping.
Chris
PS these prints add 5 WHP
I would be in for a print if we get people.
cwareing 01-24-2005, 03:19 PM I would be in for a print if we get people.

:D
flippy 01-25-2005, 01:47 AM Maybe it is just me but that Solberg drawing is pretty *****ty to me. If this guys is a professional artisist, well he is not that good. I've had friends in high school that draw better than that. The perspective is all wrong. Look at the front right fender, too open.
The McRae print is better though.
grimbeaver 01-25-2005, 02:10 AM is it just me or do the pics not show up?

I dont think u are referring to this, but the white spot on that fender is the camera flash. I'll agree, but the pics don't do it justice, it looks a lot better in real life. Jeff Norton is a distinguished motorsports artist, he is an associate member of the Guild of Motoring artists, which is not easy to get into by any means, with only a few dozen members worldwide. I'm not going to argue with you, we are all entitled to our opinions.
Chris
Grimbeaver, I think its just you, but I can email if you are truly interested. Shoot me a pm
cwareing 01-25-2005, 06:46 PM bumpity bump
grimbeaver 01-25-2005, 06:53 PM nevermind i can see it now... do you have a bigger pic of the evo?

cwareing 01-26-2005, 02:03 PM Ken, Imprezaboi, Aspect, and Deft if you are still interested the cost would be $37 CAD including shipping. Even with 6 people buying prints, the cost for each person would be $36 CAD, so not a huge savings I guess. Let me know if you guys are still interested. Buying a print individually would cost each person about $48
Grimbeaver, does the bigger version of the evo print show up?
Chris
aspect 01-26-2005, 02:04 PM I'll take a Tommi one like that....

That one is by another UK motoring artist, David Burk. I also have a few of his prints, they are worth a little more, over $100 CAD per print. He does mostly F1 prints but he has a few quality WRC prints as well.
Grimbeaver: I don't think there is any rush, I was going to give it about 2 weeks just to make sure everyone has a chance to see the pics and decide if they want one or not. How about I make the cutoff Sunday Feb 6. Then we can work out some way for everyone to pay and get their prints from me.
Imprezaboi, coming right up :)

Actually I'll definitely pic something up, but are there any more choices? I"m now leaning more to the McRae print.

Hey Kev,
1994 McRae and 2003 Solberg are his only Subaru prints. I'm giving people until Feb 6 or so to decide if they are interested in one of the prints. So just let me know buddy
Chris
Wycked 01-28-2005, 11:21 PM I'm down for the Sollberg print
cwareing 01-29-2005, 12:41 AM 1. Ken -1997 Makinen Evo
2. Imprezaboi - McRae Print 1994
3. Aspect - 1997 Makinen Evo
4. Deft - 2003 Solberg Subaru
5. Wycked - 2003 Solberg Subaru
6.
OK, there is definitely enough interest to make this worthwhile. I'll give another week for guys to decide, then I'll put in the order. I need you guys to ask any questions you have now, so please speak up if you want to know anything, like exact size of the print etc, because some of them are different sizes. The cost DOES NOT include a frame, just the print and shipping. It will take awhile for the prints to arrive from the UK. I have never paid duty/customs charges when buying prints from the UK, but if there is a charge, it will be divided among everyone evenly. You guys can order more than 1 if u want, totally up to you.
Chris
cwareing 01-30-2005, 05:03 PM I think we are just waiting on a few people to decide. I will put the order in on Sunday Feb. 6th.
What do you guys think is the best way to distribute the prints. Maybe at a Subaru meet, then you can pay me then? I have no problem with that, but I just don't want people to not want the print after I order it. Hopefully that shouldnt be a problem, I have lots of trust in the Subaru community.
Chris
toastertek 01-31-2005, 01:54 AM Hi Chris, put me down for the 94 Colin McRae print. Thanks
Change mine to the 94 colin mcrae print rather than the Solberg print
cwareing 01-31-2005, 02:27 AM OK Graeme, McRae print it is. Getting the print out to C-wack is another story, but we'll find a way :)
deft, done
The maximum number of prints that can fit into one poster tube for shipping is 8, so we have the right amount of interest for this to work out as cheaply as possible.
1. Ken - 1997 Makinen Evo
2. Aspect - 1997 Makinen Evo
3. Wycked - 2003 Solberg Subaru
4. Deft - 1994 McRae Subaru
5. Imprezaboi- 1994 McRae Subaru
6. Toastertek - 1994 McRae Subaru
7.
8.
Still can take 2 more orders, so Grimbeaver and anonymous wolf, if you guys are still deciding, could you please let me know as soon as possible.
If you guys are wondering why I am not ordering, its because I already own both his subaru prints, and I thought other VICer's would like to as well.
Talk to you guys soon,
Chris
cwareing 02-01-2005, 05:41 PM Going to bump this one more time, order going in soon.
Currently I am in Victoria for school, but I'm getting the prints shipped to my folks house in Surrey. Once they arrive I will come home, and hopefully we can all meet up and do the exchange in a single weekend. This will have to be done on a weekend because of school, hope that is OK with everyone.
Any last changes or questions should be asked now. The total cost including shipping will be between $36 and $40.
Thanks guys,
Chris
grimbeaver 02-01-2005, 11:16 PM alright i've decided i want to get the Makinen Evo... thx for doing this cwareing!
cwareing 02-02-2005, 12:34 AM No problem, grimbeaver. The toughest part about this is actually getting them to you guys all in one weekend. Oh well, it will give me a chance to drive my Dad's Legacy around instead of my GC

cwareing 02-04-2005, 04:17 AM This should be the last bump,, I promise. I'm sure everybody who has seen this thread has made their decision already.
Chris
cwareing 02-06-2005, 03:32 AM OK guys, I have made the order, it should take less than 2 weeks for them to arrive. Then I will have to pick a weekend to come home from Victoria to distribute them. Maybe we should have a minimeet so I can give them to you guys all at once. Please check this thread for updates, or pm me if you have any questions.
Chris
Awesome, thanks Chris! :D
cwareing 02-06-2005, 04:55 PM Awesome, thanks Chris! :D
Glad to see someone is paying attention, I was beginning to wonder ;)
Could you guys possible pm me what area of Vancouver you are in, so maybe we can pick a neutral location for a mini meet.
I'll let you guys know as soon as the prints arrive.
Thanks
Chris
cwareing 02-07-2005, 10:22 AM OK, as long as there is no customs, which there never has been before, total cost per print is $37. Guess I'll brings some change when we meet up. ;)
I am thinking of coming home the weekend of Feb 26/27. I will try to meet up with everyone. If thats not possible, I will leave your print with Ken who has graciously said that he will deliver the prints to those that cannot get them that weekend. For those people, payment by cheque or cash in the mail is preferred, but we can deal with that when the time comes.
Chris
Wycked 02-07-2005, 04:21 PM I'm over by UBC
I second that!
grimbeaver 02-07-2005, 06:40 PM If its a sunday morning, i'll probably be at ubc too...
toastertek 02-07-2005, 10:41 PM I can meet up somewhere that weekend no problem.
imprezaboi 02-08-2005, 12:19 AM Either day is fine but on saturday I can only meet earliest at 1pm. I live smack dead in the middle of vancouver so nothing in vancouver is too far.
cwareing 02-08-2005, 06:17 PM Alright guys,
How about we meet at the Autox event at Boundary Bay Airport on Sunday Feb 27th? I can distribute the prints, and we can stick around and watch the UBC vs. SFU Slush series event #7.
Sound good?
And you can come compete too :P
cwareing 02-08-2005, 09:56 PM And you can come compete too :P
haha I dont know about that, I'm not bringing my car back over, otherwise not only would I not be making money on the prints, I'd be losing abour $80 in ferry costs. I'm just walking on. Unless my Dad doesnt mind me competing in his Legacy
toastertek 02-08-2005, 10:13 PM Boundary Bay sounds good to me.
grimbeaver 02-08-2005, 11:03 PM That's so far from me... i will see. Otherwise i can just get someone else to pick it up for me...

I can meet you somewhere closer on that Saturday if you want. Name a time and place and we can arrange something more convenient for you.
How about Parking lot of Langara, Cambie and 49? Thats about halfway from White Rock to West Van?
Let me know. Also, if anyone else wants to do this instead of meeting at Boundary Bay, I will do both, shouldnt be a problem.

cwareing 02-18-2005, 05:12 PM Alright fellas, I have just received word from my folks that the prints have arrived. I will be coming home next weekend (25th-27th)to try to get them all distributed.
I am going to try my best to get all the prints distributed on that weekend. I realize it would be difficult to get everyone together at the same place at the same time, so given I can get my Dad's car, I will try a couple locations. How many of you guys can meet at Langara on the Saturday at about 7pm? I will also be going to the autox at Boundary Bay on the 27th, I know a couple of you guys will be there. I will set up a list for either location, and hopefully everyone can make one of them.
Langara Saturday
1. Imprezaboi
2. Ken

Boundary Bay Sunday
1. Deft
2. Toastertek
3. Wycked
Aspect obviously you don't have to worry about this, I will bring your print back over to the island and give it to you at the next meet.
If possible could everyone bring as close to exact change as possile. The cost is just over $37, so I'll bring some toonies so you guys can just bring 2 $20 bills.
You guys might want to bring your own poster tube to protect the print. AFAIK they come in a plastic covering, but since we got them shipped together there is only one tube, which I'll need to use when I bring Aspects print back to Victoria so I dont damage it. If you don't have one, I'll bring some rubber bands so at least you can keep the prints rolled up.
Any other questions, just pm me and I'll get back ASAP.
Thanks guys
Chris
I will be at boundary bay sunday.
grimbeaver 02-18-2005, 09:47 PM hmmm... i dunno if i can make Langara Saturday... lemme check

Other than that, looks like everything is all planned out. I am going to pm all u guys my cell number, just in case anything changes and you need to get ahold of me. Yes, it's a victoria number, but the charges are next to nothing, or you could even text message me if you want.
I'll bump this thread on Friday, just as a friendly reminder.
See you guys soon

cwareing 02-22-2005, 11:16 PM I just found out that we got charged $19 for customs. Man I hate duty :furious:
Divided by 7 its not all that bad though, it just makes each print cost cents over $40, but $40 is fine. Sorry about this guys, but it's clearly out of my hands. I'll bring the receipt just in case you guys think I'm scammin ;)
See you this weekend
Chris
cwareing 02-25-2005, 11:18 PM hey guys,

cwareing 02-27-2005, 11:35 PM Hey Wycked,
As Ken mentioned, I gave the prints to him as that is a whole lot easier and cheaper than shipping them again. I had left in time to make the 3pm ferry only to have it cancelled ( :furious: at BC Ferries)
Anyways, Basically I need you and grimbeaver to mail a cheque or cash, your choice, to me here in Victoria. I will pm you my address. After I have received the money I will let Ken know and you guys can arrange to meet after that to pick up the prints. I know this is a bit tedious and I'm sure you guys are more than trustworthy but being a student I can't really take the chance, as there are some people out there that ruin it for the rest of us.
It was nice to meet you AllWheelDrift and imprezaboi, and seeing Ken and Graeme again. Hope you guys like the prints, I've got nothing but positive feedback for them so far.
See you guys in the Summer! :)
Paul, don't worry about it, I left the prints with Ken in Burnaby, but the offer is much appreciated
Chris

cwareing 03-01-2005, 12:30 AM Sweet dude, where did u get the frame? How much was it? Looking good Ken
The artist has asked me to get any feedback you guys have, and relay it to him. So if you have any comments/suggestions its much appreciated.
I got it at IKEA for $24. They had the frameless ones for $9 but it looks cheap. The frame itself is good but you have to slide on the tabs that hold the back wiring in place. The tabs suck so they don't stay in place that well. Need to take pliers and squeeze it like a mofo.
The print seems like good paper. Near the top though it looks like you can see some scan lines like a ink-jet printer but I doubt it was printed on some crappy printer.
Wycked 03-01-2005, 02:01 AM Money sent on paypal!
cwareing 03-01-2005, 02:35 AM Money sent on paypal!
OK, money received, just says it takes 5-6 days to clear, but you don't have to bother waiting, I trust ya ;)
Thanks for the quick payment, I hope you like the print. Any positive or negative comments are appreciated, as the artist Jeff Norton likes to receive them.
I will pm Ken and tell him you have paid. You might wanna thank him for grabbin the prints for you too.
Hope to meet you guys in person at the next meet.
Thanks for all the positive pm's from you guys, it makes it all worthwhile. Thanks for making this whole thing run so smoothly.
Chris
