Any chance you're ever going to make steel non-adjustable lateral links with stiff bushings for those of us who are cost-conscious, satisfied with our "camber bolts" in the rear, and don't want the NVH of pillowballs?

That is, a cost-effective alternative to the STI bushed lateral links.

I suspect not, but figured I'd ask.

If you want cost effective alternative to STi links, simply replace the bushings with some stiffer ones. Everything else is the same, only painted pink and has pillowball bearings and not bushings.

Dariusz,

I had already got my car alignment and corner weighted before I ordered these. So when I do the install do I need to worry about not having myself in the drivers seat to add the extra weight during the corner weighting process?

I know you have to install them under load, either on ramps or on the ground.

When corner-weighting you should be in the driver's seet to see what the values are when you actually drive the car. If you have the adjustable end links, you can use them to vary the rear distribushin slightly via sway bar preload.

Hey D,

I guess I may have misspoke. What I mean is that I got the corner-weighting done already. Now I need to install my front endlinks that I purchased after the fact. I currently have whiteline's installed. So, when installing them do I need to have someone else install them while I sit in the drivers seat inorder to not mess up the corner-weight?

If you want to eliminate sway bar preload, than, for best results, you should be in the drivers seat and have the other person adjust the length so that there is no preload on the sway bar.

Hi Dariusz,

I bought your HEIM Rear Endlink for an 05 WRX (referred by my friend as being one of the best endlinks) from P&LMotorsports. I thought it was a good match with My Perrin Rear Sway Bar & Mounts. However, even at its shortest setting, the rear sway bar is pointing upwards like 45-55 degrees and the the endlink is also angled. Is there a way to fix this? or its not just compatible with the Perrin sway bar. Please let me know what my options are.

Brent,

Something definitely seems to be wrong with the mounts, could you send some more pictures, one from the back and one from the same angle as you have it above but make sure that the mount (silver box) is clearly visible.

I also noticed that you have the bolts that go through the sway bar and top of the end links oriented improperly. The head of the bolt should always be against the end link (with spacer between them) and the nut against the sway bar.
When we set the end links, we set them for sway bars that mount on the inside of the end links (like the stock one) if you have sway bars that mount on the outside of the end links, you need to twist the top portion of the end link 180 deg.

Thanks

I think the Perrin Mounts are too long because it's almost level with the Hub. Also, we can't fit the end link on the other side of the bar, it was too tight and we cannot slode the bolt in so we did it on the other side.

Is this something fixable or do I have to get another end link?

Hey Dariusz & Paul,

Here's the picture you requested.

Is this something fixable or do I have to get another end link?

Brent,

After some thinking, I may have a possible explanation.

Because the end links are mounted on the hub and not directly below the lateral links, it is normal that they will be at an angle and not vertical. In your case, this angle is exaggerated, more than I have seen until now, by the fact that you have:
- Lowered car
- Perrin sway bar with longer sway bar mounts
- The sway bar setting is on the stiffest position

The angle of the end links itself has little to no effect on downward/upward forces created by the sway bar on the suspension (end links transfer those forces between the sway bar and the rest of the suspension) but it does increase sideways force on the box and sway bar mounts, that increase causes more stress on both mounts, however, both should take it without any issues. To see if the sway bar is in the right position (front to rear), see if the middle hole in the sway bar is directly above the rear lateral link. On your picture, it looks like it is towards the back, which could mean that the sway bar is to far towards the rear, this is just a speculation.

The oversteer that you are experiencing is simply a result of your sway bar setting and more efficient end link action, I suggest that you set the sway bar in the middle setting and see what happens.

Regarding the bolt fitment, you must make sure that there is a spacer between the sway bar and end link, without it, end links will fail prematurely. I will also be emailing you instruction. That is independent of the fact that the Perrin sway bars will have the end links on the inside rather than outside of it (like the stock sway bars do). As I mentioned earlier, you should have simply twisted the top of the end link 180 deg.

Everything else on the end links seems to be installed correctly.

Regards

Dariusz

Brent,

Now that I think about it your sway bar extended mounts are installed incorectly the left one is on the right side and vise versa. The curved part of the mount should be in the rear. That should bring your sway bar to a more forward position.

misterbee123
03-11-2005, 02:34 PM
Thank you Dariusz & Paul.

Swaybar is set to the softest setting. The stiffer I go the more upright the endlink will be. If you meant the silver "Perrin" mounts, they are correctly installed. Should I move the "box" before the lateral links or leave it as is right now?

What did you mean by: "The curved part of the mount should be in the rear. That should bring your sway bar to a more forward position"

Please explain further: "As I mentioned earlier, you should have simply twisted the top of the end link 180 deg."

Hope to get response from you this afternoon. I will try to work on this tonight or tomorrow.

Thank you again for your assistance.

Actually, your sway bar is now set at its stiffest setting, the softest setting is the one next to the end of the bar (furthest towards the front of the car).

By twisting the top o fthe end link 180 deg. I mean the fact that when shipped to you, the end links were set so that the spacer was facing center of the car (that is because the stock sway bar, as most of the oftermarket bars, mounts on the inside of the end links). Since your sway bar mounts on the outside, you can loosend the nut on the body of the end link and twist the top bearing 180 deg. so that the spacer now faces the outside of the car.

I'm in the market for some lateral links, just trying decide what brand to go with and which variation. What is the advantage (if any) of going with the hub-mounted rear endlinks? Do they make the swaybar more effective somehow?

Thanks,

Yes, they do make sway bar more effective since they act directly on the wheel hub and do not couse the lateral links to bend. This also means that the lateral links can be lighter as they no longer need to withstand bending stresses.

The trailing links look pretty sweet. I like the simple approach you took. I assume the parking brake line will still clip to these?

Will the parking brake line still clip to these?
