As you may have seen by my other thread anything attached to a cable on my WRX seems to be a giant POS. I pull on that gas lever over and over and nothing. I'm about to break the damn mechanism and cut a finger hole.
Is there a way to boost this thing so when you pull it the door flys open?

Make sure that the door is not bent and closes properly (and doesn't have to be slammed shut). Does it line up properly? It sounds like either the door hinge is bent a little or the cable needs to be tightened or replaced. I never had trouble with mine until I left the door open one day and drove down the road. When I finally realized it was opened, I had to bend the hinge a little to get it shut. It's still not 100%, but it does open

It is def not bent. I have never really slammed it shut or had any trouble closing the fuel hatch door before it is more just getting the thing to pop open.
at least I'll sleep well knowing that no one else can steal my gas :)

Around the first of this year / end of last year, SOA issued Technical Service Bulletin 09-40-04; Fuel Door Will Not Open. It's description is at http://techinfo.subaru.com/html/displayPDFDesc.jsp?doc_id=73152 and says:If you encounter a customer complaint that the fuel door will not open, there is the possibility that the fuel cap tether is catching on the fuel door clip. To correct this condition, a fuel cap tether clip will need to be installed. This bulletin describes this procedure.I don't know whether that's your problem - just a thought.
P.S. to rexygirl: Are you a Subaru service advisor?

I have this problem on my '02 WRX. I'm going to see if it is the fuel cap tether that is causing the problem.
