View Full Version : 2004 wrx seat material ripping? And hesitating
Silver_04_WRX_SC 01-27-2005, 01:50 PM Anyone else having this problem? Where my wallet is in my pants, back/right side, its wearing through the mesh stuff on my seat. Its all fraid, and crappy looking. I took it to Subaru and they will replace it one time only. And they told me to put my wallet in my front pocket from here on out. They also said that they have never heard of this issue before (but 05's have the same seat, different cover) makes me wonder....
Next issue:
My car after about 20 mins. of driving starts hesitating, took it to Subaru and they said its retarding boost blah blah blah and the problem is my gas. I have been getting gas at the same place for almost a year, and they recommend me getting 95 octane gas. So never getting a call back from them, I run 95 for 1 month and still get the hesitation. Talked to Subaru and they said again, never heard of anyone having this problem before. Said they could re-flash my ecu at no cost, but I have to pay for the rental car for 3 days?
Anyone else having these issues?
P.S. my trunk leaks also....that will be fixed, but they wont give me new carpet..
dl337j00 01-27-2005, 02:26 PM forget to take that hunting knife off for driving?
naw, jk. in my jetta, im having the same problem... but its my jeans. those little metal rivet-type circles on your jeans... on all my pairs, those circle things are bent. they cut my thumb sometimes too. solution = drive naked.
psuknak05 01-27-2005, 02:32 PM having same seat issue, i work for a dealer, so they are going to fix it no problem... wasn't sure how others were making out on that though. It has the same seat in 05 like you said just different cover.... all they order in is a new cover. They told me as long as it was under warranty they would keep replacing it... I have seen on here that it has been an issue with a few others. Don't let them get away without repairing it for free, if they won't do the work, go somewhere else... some people think only the dealership where you bought the car will fix warranty issues, you can take it to any subaru dealer, they can't turn you away.

I asked Subaru to order a 05 seat cover and they said they can only order the same part that is on the car, which is the 04 cover. You think I need to call copr. subaru on them and yell till I get a 05 cover?
goridewrx 01-27-2005, 03:20 PM i, too, have noticed this. pants that fit me best have a little leather or cloth patch on the right butt pocket, and i thought it was my own fault it was fraying a bit. i wondered if anyone else experienced that...
not sure if i should bring it in....
Bagelw 01-27-2005, 03:28 PM My drivers seat did the same thing. The wear showed up within the first 5000 miles I owned the car. My car now has 21,000 miles and the seat never got worse. I don't even bother taking my wallett out anymore. It's like the seat got to a point where it would stopping wearing.
I keep seeing that a few people are getting it replaced under warrenty so I'll see if they'll replace mine.
WRXVT 01-27-2005, 03:37 PM maybe try resetting the ecu yourself for that hesitation issue?
Silver_04_WRX_SC 01-27-2005, 03:48 PM I reset the ecu and it did help for about 1 week. I am planning on getting a cobb ap and I am sure that will fix it. So I called corp. Subaru about the seat and they are even worse than the dealer. This guy just gave me excuse after another, "well I am glad the dealer stuck up and said they will only replace it one time, its obvious that your wallet it causing the problem", I was like its obvious that you used $hit a$$ material and noticed it sucked and used something different for 05. He also kept saying that this is the 1st they have heard of the issue. I told him to check the forums, cause in 1hr 5 people have said they have the same problem.

I am just getting a new 04 cover, didn't ask about getting an 05 cover for the 04. I can see why they would say that... it would be the normal procedure to just get the original replacement, maybe they don't get credited back if they order something that wasn't original.... all you can do is try. just don't let them get off telling you that it isn't a common issue, or that it is normal wear and tear!!!

sounds like SOA is well on their way to representing a "premium" brand.
armand1 01-27-2005, 07:33 PM I had a hole worn in the side bolster of the seat back within a year; Subaru does have a ways to go before reaching premium level. OTOH, you can look at it as an opportunity to swap in aftermarket leather seatcovers!
Silver_04_WRX_SC 01-27-2005, 08:00 PM Think I might sell both front seats, now that one will be pretty much brand new and buy some aftermarket seats. although..leather would be nice ;)

I had it at the dealer 3 times already, changing the coilpacks all 3 times, so if it happens again, which im hoping it wouldnt quite frankly, then SOA will hopefully refund all my money back under the lemon law. I know how you feel man...it shouldnt be happening to a new car. Anyway, good luck with it.
Ketchup 02-02-2005, 08:10 PM The hesitation/detonation in the '04 is very common. (Mine is a victim).
It has to do with the "closed loop/open loop" fuel map under WOT conditions in the ECU. A reflash could make it worse. Look on the AWJunkies site for the huge write-up. There may be some here, too.
Mine only does it occasionally. Keep taking it to the dealer and show them. It has to be on file for SOA to do something.
Silver_04_WRX_SC 02-03-2005, 09:29 AM The 95 octane really helps, and cooler weather. But it will still do it after 30+ mins. of driving. I took my car to Fareway Subie in Greenville, and had a very disappointing visit. They put a new seat in (still 04), my trunk was leaking so they replaced the seal, and sprayed my new car with the god awful worst citrus scent ever! I was pissed...so freakin pissed. But even at 7:30am the day started out bad. Fareway has a new service guy, he looks like he was dropped as a baby, ugly mean a$$. I pull my car into the service bay @ 7:30 sharp, and he tells me to " pull my car all the way in, cause other people might want to pull in also" HELLO its 7:30am you have alot of people due in that early? Anyways they take the car straight to the back...so I rev it up drive forward maybe 5 feet, get out and threw my keys at him and told him to call me once they get it fixed(which they never did. I called them). So I am so pissed at Fareway I will never go back, cause they are obviously idiots, and I almost went and traded my car for a EVO that same day. But I love my car... Just waiting for taxes to get cobb AP and fix my hesitaion problem.
DieselClown 02-08-2005, 01:57 AM it sucks, but im glad to see that im not alone. i keep hearing that if you get a CObb AP, it will cure it, but Im afraid to because im afraid that the one thing that might fix it will also void my warranty. Im one more fisit away from lemoning my car. I hate this. Also, at idle, the car shakes pretty badly sometimes. I know the boxer rumble, and i also know that its goten worse.
IMPRZV1 02-08-2005, 02:33 AM If anyone needs a driver seat cover I have one, I installed a leather interior kit in my car and don't plan on ever needing the covers again. Please PM me if you want the cover.

They ask you to pull in so other people could, and you get pissed that you had to move your car then you act like a ass .
Silver_04_WRX_SC 02-08-2005, 02:29 PM They ask you to pull in so other people could, and you get pissed that you had to move your car then you act like a ass . You know how many people were at subaru @ 7:30am that morning? 3, me and the 2 service guys, there was easily enough room to put 2 cars behind me, and they take the car straight to the serivce dept right after you hand them the keys, so yeah I was an ass. Just spent 25K on a new car, it runs like $hit, seat is ripping, and trunk leaks all within 8 months...you would be an ass too...oh wait your already are a dumba$$
P.S.
Suabru local and SOA is incredible rude also...so if they are an ass to me, they get the same in return. I get better customer service spending 1 dollar at wal-mart.

I agree... he sounds mighty unreasonable.
Maybe your getting back the rotten attitude you give off?

~v6 You ever think that I am giving them the rotten attitude that they gave off to me 1st? HELLO, I am the customer, and not happy with my investment, did you two get dropped on your head as babies? Or do you just let people walk all over you...guess so, keep bending over....
Let me recap:
Issue 1: Car hesitation - subaru told me to get better gas, recommended 95, or have SOA re-flash my ECU and I have to pay for 3 days of rental cars, SOA will not cover rental.
Issue 2 : Seat wearing out - SOA tells me that they will replace 1 time, and to remove my wallet from my pocket from here on out. And recommended after market seats...SOA said that..lol
Issue 3: Trunk leak - SOA tells me that they cannot replace the carpet or spare tire cover cause it is not broken/malfunctioning, although it smells of mildew and the spare cover has a stain on it. But they spray my car with a horrible citrus spray, and I end up forking out 60 dollars to get my car steam cleaned.
armand1 02-11-2005, 06:15 PM I think v6 is onto something...
Knotsure 02-11-2005, 08:36 PM 1 - you use crap gas and you get bad performance. If you check your warranty book, SOA does pay for rentals, so maybe there's something else to their saying "no" or... Anyway, maybe read the book, try a nicer approach (i.e. treat others like you want to be treated" - customer or not) and they will work with you.
2 - I call BS - SOA said to buy aftermarket? Did the person at SOA just happen to be there to say this to you? I guess your wallet is just so big and fat, it wore out the cover huh? Special!
3 - Did you ask for the person at SOA who happened to be there at 7:30 with you and the two head dropped service babies to look at the damage before saying no?
You keep accusing people of being dropped on their heads. Are you thinking that because of your personal childhood experiences, everyone has been dropped? Surely your tone in posting is not a way to win support dude. Maybe have some cheese with your whine and try again?
Gfunk720 07-18-2005, 05:56 PM Bump for an old thread, just wanted to see if anyone has had anymore luck with this. Specifically at which dealership in NE would honor a warantee for this?
My front drivers seat looks nothing like the passanger seat next to it. It has little pulls everywhere and almost has a fuzzy feel. I do keep my wallet in my back pocket, and notice that the wear is worse there than anywhere else. But my car is 18 months old and the seat looks pretty crappy. I do have a few mods, so I dont want to have to leave it at the dealer or anything just to look at the seat. I really just feel like the material should not have worn out after 18 months, and that they obviously changed the material in 05 for a reason
Ideally I would buy some 05 covers (or 04 covers), but I have no idea how much they would be or where I could get them. Maybe I should just get some STI seats instead...

 Attitude does help. Even if you are mad about your car problems, it not really the fault of the dealer employees so don't take it out on them.

Pssttt...that post was from 5 months ago. Just tried to see if anyone has had any updates about the 04 seats
