Heres the deal...

My roommate has a 2000 RS that he bought from someone on this site. It has 60k miles on it but the car was driven hard in its life. It is very modded but engine wise its I/H/E/P

The other day my roommate was driving home and he punched it a little then horrible knocking all across the RPM band started and a lot of power was lost. The oil light started to come on at idle. He got home and checked his oil and it was pretty much bone dry. (He had the oil changed when he got the car but not since than nor does he check it :furious: :huh: hes put less than 3000 miles since the last change) So apparently the car burns oil pretty bad...

Anyways. He had the oil changed but now the car is still knocking pretty bad but it gets worse when the engine is warm. Its undrivable and he doesnt want to drive it cause of possibly doing more damage.

Hes basiclly frustrated now and wants to save for a swap, but I think he should at least find out whats wrong with the car.

Anyone have any ideas?

-Burns oil
-Oil level was very low but light just came on
-Knocking getting worse.
-Knocks when cruising and at idle. More so when warm.

Well now we think its rod knock....IE blown motor.

That's what you get when lill preventative maintence isn't done :( Yea once the knock comes it is too late

Thats what I told him. I just changed my oil 2 weeks ago. Asked if he wanted to do his car too and he told me that it didnt need it...

bad idea.

Oh well, he has a beater car to drive till he gets the subaru running again.

Yeah he might want to do a once over of the whole car. I'm guessing the beater is his only car now. He might want to check the trans fluid and anything else easily checked.
