Are nitrous kits illegal for street driving ?

Matters what you consider illegal :rolleyes: A downpipe is illegal but hey a lot of people use it. If its a well hidden system... its perfectly legal :devil:

having a nitrous bottle in your car is illegal for 2 reasons...1) you do not have the HAZMAT warning sticker 2) there is no way to field test nitrous oxide to identify Automotive Grade and Dentral Grade nitrous

Here in Delaware, you can have the kit installed and even a full bottle in your car. However, you can not have the nitrous line hooked up to the bottle. That's the key!

I remember a cop on a forum was stating he was going to arrest me some years ago if he caught me with my wagon in Maryland (headed for M.I.R - Maryland International Raceway). I called DNREC, the EPA and one other agency and they stated the same thing as I said above.

Hazmat stickers aren't necessary unless the amount of nitrous you are carrying is over a certain weight. I can't remember the weight it is but I don't think you would need to be concerned with it. It was a pretty heavy weight and/or large amount.

Call your local/state DNREC, EPA and/or law enforcement to find out.

as long as the bottle is closed and. (there are kits that electricaly open the bottle from a switch) they can not prove that you are using it. i have heard this before but am not 100% sure

In new york im pretty sure you can have it set up but not allowed to have the tank in the car but im not to sure about that. if you can have the tank in the car it definetly cant have anything in it.

illinois sucks, they require the markers, but what really doesn't make sense is they don't require them to move LPG around for grills

In Atlanta, GA you can not have nitrous. If you have it in your car it CAN NOT be hooked up to your ENGINE. All part of the road-rage laws,or some other communist law like it.

There's a guy that I'll go drive with on friday/saturday nights who has a Z28 with a huge bottle of the stuff sitting right next to him in the center console. But that's here in Utah.
