View Full Version : Cobb stage1 or 2 with elec. boost controller?

I did some searching but was unable to find a direct answer to this.

I talked to Cobb Tuning about any of their stages and using a boost controller
to have better turbo response from the better solenoids than stock.
e.g. the Blitz SBC-iD boost controller has dual solenoids and gives MUCH better turbo response from this.

also the blitz would NOT affect ecu because that boost controller only has power and ground. It is solely a boost controller and Cobb told me that it would mess with fuel, and everything, but I dont see how that is possible without it affecting or going NEAR the ecu

My main question is, if I get a stage 1 or 2 and get a boost controller to take advantage of the dual soloenoids, would that be ok?

comments, suggestions, please.
thanks

Huh? Cobb told you not to use it with their EM - what's not direct or clear about that?

<Uncle Scotty>
Only use the boost controller when you are spraying NOS at partial throttle.

If Cobb told you not to use a boost controller, don't use it. Do not come here looking for someone to over-ride the advice of your tuner

They recommended not using the boost controller, and I understand that.
but I see you guys did not understand my question

Would a boost controller be useful to take advantage of the better solenoids?
not to use it to modify boost from any EM.

Call Cobb, and when they say no again, drop it - or just find another tuner who uses a different EM. Cobb's maps [like most] are part specific.

I had the same concern...this is what Cobb told me.

this is what i asked in my email (direct copy):
----------------------
After installing an AccessPORT, would adjusting boost with an aftermarket controller cause the car to run improperly or decrease vehicle longevity (assuming that boost is never set too high)?
----------------------

this is the reply (direct copy):
----------------------
The tune provided in the mapping sets the boost levels for maximum efficiency for that particular tune. Trying to alter them would dramatically effect the final outcome of the overall tune. Installing a MBC would actually keep the car from reaching target boost due to the components of a boost controller.

Cheers,

Yes.... that is what they told me approx.
but my question was not about adjusting boost with the Cobb maps, but using the dual solenoids..... This is my first turbo car and I have experience from friends cars with boost controllers, but I heard from everyone that the solenoids from most aftermarket boost controllers give much better turbo response.

That is my only question, I am not asking about adjusting boost like Unabobmber and Flycaster are suggesting I am asking..... thats all.

Sure. Just throw four boost controllers on there. Four is better than one, right?

You're obviously looking for someone to tell you to do it anyway, even though the people who designed it told it is a bad idea. I would like to think they know more than your friends...

When you blow your engine, please don't start (another) thread bashing Cobb.

After I had my car dynoed it was detonating on stage 2 map but not on stock mode map, I added a manual boost controller set for the same "target boost" and the boost came on so much stronger. I didn't have it dynoed after that, but the car seemed so much faster.

relax man... ....
I dont know your correlation between aftermarket solenoids and 4 boost controllers has to do with anything, but ok.
Im looking for someone if they know if aftermarket solenoids are better....
