The dealer tells me "dont worry Subaru is world-wide you should have no trouble getting warrenty help. ;) " Plus this was a brand new 03 WRX what do i have to worry about rite :o ... only catastrophic internal engine failure. :huh: I paid $6000 total out pocket for this and have just finished paying off everything i owed. But hey Im not here to cry about it im here to spread the word and try to protect any other military members from the policy. Take from me suby dont care about you... :cool:

So did you buy the subaru over seas and have it shipped back? If so I can see why SOA doesnt cover it, its not their department's car...

Hes saying he took his car overseas, as alot of us have to do when we get sent overseas for 4 years. No they wont cover it Im surprised they didnt tell you right upfront, I think theyre supposed to make you sign a form that tells you this, you should check on that. I know a friend of mine bought a car and they wouldnt sell it to him untill he signed this paperwork. He wound up not signing it but if he ever took it overseas they would void his warranty. Think about your comment, it makes no sense. If you take a U.S. Subaru to Canada, sure, most dealers would be fairly familiar with it. It's pretty close. But warranty coverage is still void. If you take it to England...you're really screwed. First, the car in England has different emissions equipment, different tuning, and other different components. The techs at subaru dealerships in England are not trained in SOA format cars. Why should they be? And why would a Subaru dealership in England want the hassle of billing the warranty work to Subaru of America? Besides setting that up, labor rates vary significantly in different countries, so the techs may not get paid enough in some countries for the work they'd need to do.

The idea of providing international warranty coverage on a car would be a logistical nightmare. Some companies might offer it, but it'd be the exception, not the rule. There's just too many variables for someone to deal with.

True, theres no way he would have been covered overseas, but he should have been told so he could plan accordingly. Thats all. They shouldnt have assumed his coverage was worldwide and took 5min to check. I spent 5 years overseas I know about emmissions and standards overseas, oranges and apples. Just have to feel bad for the guy because the military is made up of such young people, it sucks when when you have to learn the hard way because someone is trying to take advantage of you. And Im upset on how people just came down on him, no need for that.

If you look inside your owners manual somewhere there is a listing of Subaru companies that deal with the Subaru of America warranty, like Canada. Sure, it sometimes takes some paperwork, but SOA will usually cover a vehicle from Canada and vice-versa.

It's kinda like buying an extended warranty. Even though you bought if from XYZ company, some places accept it. Sure, sometimes you have to pay out of pocket at first, but you usually get reimbursed.

Is it possible that SOA didn't cover this repair becuase it had something to do with an engine repair, rather than the vehicle being overseas?

Yes, but if you go to Canada and have a problem, they will cover it also. They will get reimbursed by SOA. There are other countries too..just too lazy to go get my book

Cars bought in the US still get covered by warranty at Canadian dealerships..

Knite89 might be eligible for up to $500 reimbursement from SOA under the EMERGENCY REPAIRS provisions of his warranty from SOA, which kick in when "there are no Autothorized SUBARU Dealers open for business within a distance of 75 miles."

Also, if I found out that I was facing a $6000 bill to fix the car overseas, I'd have shipped the car back to the US (for about $1000) and have it towed to the nearest authorized Subaru dealer.

Taking your Subaru out of the country doesn't VOID your warranty, it just makes it very hard to get your car to an authorized Subaru dealer.

Yea i bought my WRX in Arizona and had it shipped to Holland per my orders. I didnt start this post to make a fuss.. beacause im not upset :cool: anymore. Im just saying for you military people have to watch out for this cuz it bit me and i dont want it to bite anyone else. also I didnt have it shipped back because at the time it was our only means of transportation plus it took two and half monthes for my car to get here so i was looking at rental car for like 5 months for the round trip. Thing are the up now anyway my STi engine block is working out just fine and now that im done paying for this whole mess NOW THE FUN STARTS... :lol:
