I bought these tires from Tire Rack last monday in stock size 205/55-16 W rated. They arrived last wednesday at noon. Purchase price was $317.00 shipped to my door. It cost $105.00 for mounting an alignment.

I had them mounted on the stock rims.I also had an alignment done with a Hunter machine by the same people who mounted and balanced the tires. The car is bone stock. Tire pressures are 36F/33R. The aligment shop recommended going over 40 PSI but Ive read that its best to go with manufacturer recommendation. So I went a little higher.

I have almost six hundred miles on these tires so far most of them highway, and about 150 mmiles on hilly back country roads with salt, sand, and patch ice. Average air temperuture as been under 16F.

The first thing I noticed is how very quite these tires are compared to the RE92's. I think they track very well with no tram lining even on the roads around here that are grooved. I didnt notice any of the "floaty" feeling that a few reviews on Tire Rack mentioned although the Rex stiil wanders a bit. I attribute that to the short wheelbase of the car.

I wasnt confident about taking the curves out in the country too hard because of sand, salt, and ice. But when I did the ASX's gripped well, much better than the RE92's. They seemed to stop on ice a bit better than the RE92's upon hard braking and sliding although I didnt measure that. They did fine in snow up to 1 foot deep.

At speeds of over 100mph the tires did nicely inspiring confidence. They went nice and straight, and didnt veer under hard acceleration. They did very well speeding around an empty six story parking structure with patch ice at below -0 temps.

I should add that these are the only tires Ive driven this car with other than the RE92's.

More later-

Good review, what other tires were you considering when you purchased these?

I had considered every UHP A/S Tire on Tire Rack and EdgeRacing.

I narrowed it down to;
PZero nero M&S
Yokohama AVS dB2
Falken Ziex Ze 512
Kumho ASX
Sumitomo HTR
Hankook Ventus H405
Toyo Proxes 4

Based on the fact that a couple of the tires did not have much testing and review information, and that the Pzero was back ordered I further narrowed it down to:

Yokohama AVS dB2
Kumho ASX
Sumitomo HTR

In am still very curious about the Toyo Proxes 4 and the Hankook.

Now that I have made my purchase I think I'll look at Falken, Toyo, Kumho, and Hankook for a summer tire. I will use the same stock rims but possibley go a bigger size.

There is also a tire that Uncle Scotty recommended in a post that I didnt take the time to list here and needs further investigation.

Based on the product I'd buy Kumho again-

I had and am having a much different experience. I just got the same tire in a 225/45/17 on a stock 17x7 05' GT Legacy rim, (these are on my WRX and look sweet) Anyhow when I first took it out felt real "outawack" tracked horably on my bumpy backroads and frost heaved main roads, when I got on the gas in second and third they would tourque/track left a right even on flat smooth road... So I figured Hey I must need an alignment, got an alignment on a hunter machine 0 toe all around -1.0 camber front R & L and stock seting on the rear camber -1.3 ish R & L. At first I though it did the trick felt alot more balanced and in control Im also running about 36f/33r psi, but it still wants to wander/track a bit. I agree the are quiet, and actually my second set. I had a set of them on my 18"s last summer and did not have any off these issues... Im replacing my steering bushings this week, we'll have to see if that makes a difference.

Oh and I would not consider these snow tires at all... I have driven it in the snow, but carefully. If you get alot of snow or rely on your wrx as the only means of winter travel I would get true snows.

Thanks, I was interested in a review/comparison of the Kumho ASX, Proxes 4 or those compared to Dunlop SP5000's as those will most likely be my next tire purchase.

Had I done a bit more research on the ASX's, I might have bought them over the ContiExtremeContacts I got a few months ago. But I must say, the Continentals have been great to me so far, expecially in the recent snow we had around here.

The ASX's do seem to be a better dry-weather tire, so maybe next time.

I respect this opinion and had considered buying dedicated snow tires then mounting summer tires come spring.

But I'd like to add that I drive at least 600 miles per week, sometimes one thousand. Thats rain or shine, snow storm, ics storm or whatever else nature throws my way. All with the Rex here in Wisconsin, and all over the USA for that matter. I can be driving in an ice storm one day, then through muggy 90 F in the Southeast another.

For my purposes I thought Id try another A/S-

Ive had these tires for over 1100 miles now, most of it freeway driving between Wisconsin and the Twin Cities in Minnesota.

They still behave nicely with little tram lining at all on grooves. They corner well and are quite grippy. They are stable at high speeds. Over all they are a big step up from the RE92's.

Last night I drove home in the snow fall. I saw no less than 7 cars in the ditch over a 94 mile commute. I was able to drive at 65-75 mph the entire time with no difficulty passing tractor trailers.

Arriving home I found 3" of snow on top of existing hard ice. The tires felt a little slippier than the RE92. Hitting the pedal around corners the car drifted predictably and recovered well. Locking the brakes the car slid to a stop about the same distance as the RE92 possibley a little more.

My over all impression during snow fall over existing ice is that the Kumho ASX acts better than the RE92 on the highway at speed, and about the same in the city with maybe a little longer slide upon locking the brakes but a little better in the corners.

In damp, wet, icy, and especially dry conditions the Kumho ASX is far superior to the RE92-
