View Full Version : Will you buy a revised WRX?
Oldnslow 01-31-2005, 03:23 PM Will you buy a revised WRX?
l.I will if it has the Legacy drivetrain and a new chassis
2.I will if it has the Legacy drivetrain, a new chassis, and looks good
3.I will if it looks good
4.I won't buy it no matter what it contains or how it looks
Diabolical1 CC 01-31-2005, 03:24 PM make a poll
FuJi K 01-31-2005, 03:29 PM 2. I will if it has the Legacy drivetrain, a new chassis, and looks good
The chassis HAS to be lighter than the GD chassis. Like said, IF they could make the Legacy lighter AND stiffer, they can do that to the Impreza as well.
Nawambo 01-31-2005, 04:04 PM ummm, and has more power! :D
Costanza 01-31-2005, 04:06 PM i'd buy an sti not a wrx
BigElm 01-31-2005, 05:31 PM I'd buy an STi B9 not a WRX
Nawambo 01-31-2005, 05:36 PM Ya good points, I'd get an STI Impreza or STI Legacy :D
bull3964 01-31-2005, 05:43 PM Where's my "If it has a legacy drivetrain and updated interior" option?
cjm04WRX 01-31-2005, 05:52 PM Add an Option for just the drivetrain and I will vote. I liked my 04 Wagon, just not the transmission very much.
WRXVT 01-31-2005, 05:56 PM the poll is lacking, I want the wrx chassis with a new interior and little more power.
Layman 01-31-2005, 06:05 PM I might be in for a WRX with a Legacy drivetrain. Especially with a nice interior and exterior.
Oldnslow 01-31-2005, 06:14 PM I think we can assume the revised WRX will have a new interior(hopefully with good seats). I just wanted to hit the main make or break things a revised WRX might have and see what folks felt. So far it looks like 60% or so place a high value on good styling. Interesting, since the things I value about the WRX have little to do with styling.

Word up brother!!
Tranny is the car's Achillies heal.
N
scott_gunn 01-31-2005, 07:10 PM I'd be all over another WRX if it had a new tranny.
AWDPilot 01-31-2005, 07:19 PM My next car is a legacy
dl337j00 01-31-2005, 07:37 PM suby needs to realize that they are putting a car into the $45,000+ range (canadian dollars) and not giving enough features... sure its looks and rally heritage are enough to justify that $$ for us enthusiests... but they are losing alot of customers due to lack of a few features. for the average consumer, $40,000+ on a car needs certain standard features, such as Navigation. and the option for things such as SMG tranny, and leather. i mean, the Mazda RX-8 is priced in a category lower than the STi, and you get leather, and option for navigation.
i know alot of you arnt going to agree with me or even forgive me for saying this, but for the average consumer, the STi is a rip-off.
that aint going to stop me from buying one tho!
scott_gunn 01-31-2005, 07:48 PM I would disagree dl337j00. The people who are shopping for style and interior features will pick the RX-8. People shopping for outright performance will buy the STi. You can't have a car that wins in every category and still keep the price competitive.
AWDPilot 01-31-2005, 07:55 PM dl337j00,
On the face of it the STi is priced way outa the RX8's league I agree, and yes it doesn't have leather, or nav, but look what it does have.
- A useable trunk
- 4 real doors
- All wheel drive
- Over compinsated brakes
- 50 more horsepower (granted it needs it to make up the weight)
I love the RX8, but since I live in New England and drive 40k miles a year, RWD just doesn't make allot of sense, although, an RX8 + a beater utility car (ie winter), well then now your talking ;)
REDrum 01-31-2005, 08:01 PM My next car is a legacy
Can ya get it w/ the STi 6 speed?
N
AWDPilot 01-31-2005, 08:03 PM I am probably one of the only people that hate the sti 6 speed, the gearing in it is absolutly useless.
Give me the RA gears any day over our 6 speed
But since I just bought my wagon and still have 4 more years worth of payments on it, who knows what the 09 legacy will look like or include ;)
tooocool49723 01-31-2005, 08:20 PM I'll buy one if they go back to the GC for design advice, if they throw in a de-tuned STi motor. If they either re-design the 5mt or just solve it with the 6mt.
And if they STOP USING UNDERSTEER. C'mon, how hard could it be to design a car that doesn't understeer like a pig??? What's the first mod everyone does handling wise? bigger rear sway bar to reduce understeer. Mabye subaru should wake up.
bemani 01-31-2005, 09:19 PM I'll buy it if it has a Legacy drivetrain, Legacy interior, ...
Why don't you just go buy a Legacy.
scottzg 02-01-2005, 12:52 AM And if they STOP USING UNDERSTEER. C'mon, how hard could it be to design a car that doesn't understeer like a pig??? What's the first mod everyone does handling wise? bigger rear sway bar to reduce understeer. Mabye subaru should wake up.
The wrx awd system inherently understeers. Can't be helped w/o a more expensive drivetrain. Since most drivers dont actually know what under/oversteer is (granted, they know it has something to do with turning...) or what to do about it, SOA doesn't need a pack of idiots oversteering into trees and driving up the cost of insurance. Dialing out a little with a swaybar seems to work for those who want to.
squid_sti 02-01-2005, 01:12 AM I'm hoping for a retro-bugeye design.
NeoteriX 02-01-2005, 02:03 AM We already know it's not gonna look good.
Why the heck is everyone voting for that choice(s)?
coolbluelb 02-01-2005, 02:13 AM I think a 2.5l drivetrain in the WRX (a la Legacy) is both a good idea, and a natural progression of where the Rex should sit in the lineup. The car would be sportier than the Legacy, yet less expensive (no twin-scroll or 6-speed) than the STi. The WRX would face up against the base and RS Evos, while the STi would take on the MR.

bmw M3
BigElm 02-01-2005, 02:53 PM bmw M3
There's nothing competitive about the M3 pricing.
MU5A5HI 02-01-2005, 03:30 PM These polls never have the option: "I am not rich and dont buy a new car every year. I will buy another car in 5-10 years when this one is old and/or i can afford a new one"
Rickyh 02-01-2005, 03:45 PM My next suby is going to be the Tribeca.
Basshead 02-01-2005, 08:10 PM i will be buying a legacy before a new wrx...so much nicer in appearance and amenities for about the same price...
Homemade WRX 02-01-2005, 08:35 PM I think maybe a new or redeveloped drivetrain would be a benefit, but I think subaru has lost site of what the impreza was built for...it's just getting big and heavy now...
parker/slc/gc8fan 02-01-2005, 08:53 PM i'm not voting cause i dont like the options.
i would rather see options like.
if it perfoms much better.
if it looks better
if it's more refined
if it's still affordable.
Jon [in CT] 02-01-2005, 09:52 PM i will be buying a legacy before a new wrx...so much nicer in appearance and amenities for about the same price...Not to mention more torque and power and the 5EAT.
Mike Wevrick 02-02-2005, 05:50 PM Almost all cars understeer because that's whats safer for the average driver.
My next car will be a Legacy GT wagon; I love my WRX but its just too small. (Luckily I can have both since we are a 2-car family and I talked my wife out of buying minivan  ) When the WRX goes I'll likely get something basic just as a city car.
MattDell 02-02-2005, 06:02 PM No. My next car will be a roadster.
So if Subaru wants to put that Scrambler concept on the market, they might be able to keep me as a customer.

My choice of options is similar: WRX wagon W/ STi components.
I'm hoping for a retro-bugeye design.
please say your joking.....
bull3964 02-03-2005, 01:15 PM Why don't you just go buy a Legacy.
Too big and doesn't handle as well.
please say your joking.....
Some of us love our bugeyes 8)
pezman04wrx 02-04-2005, 12:26 PM I went for #2 as well ... Wouldn't mind a revised chassis, and we can only hope on the looks ... Unfortunatly, gone are the days of the 2800lb rides ... Althought it would certainly be sweet, it'll never happen again ... I like the plushness of the Legacy's, but I do think it's not nearly as sporty as the STI/WRX's ...
