I have been doing some thinking about the best wheel/tire combo for the track - I know everyone is different - so let me explain what I am after and hopefully you may be able to share some opinions on this.
I have the 05 STi with stock BBS's - took off the stock tires (in garage) and put on T1-S's to handle the buckets of rain we've been getting.
I am going to go to track day and I know the T1-S's sidewalls are a little too soft for my liking. And I figured I'd get another set of wheels for easy switching. Cost is not too much of a concern (I am looking in the sub $650/wheel range) so now the question is: Should I go with an 18" rim that is lighter than the 17" BBS's or the same weight - something that would fit a 235/35 18" tire - thinking of the Toyo RA1's? Or should I just go with a 17" wheel (like a lighter Volk) that is lighter than the stock BBS's and put on the stock RE070's?
Are there any 18" wheels within that price range that fit the stock STi? I plan on doing suspension mods in the future - especially coilovers - to lower the car a bit (less than an inch in front and even less in rear) and do 4 corner balancing. With that consideration - I am thinking going the 17" route.
