For those who don't want the green ;) we have RedLine Hood Dampners!

They do require some drilling to install and comes with complete instructions. (Instructions are available on line as well, with clear pictures).

Or you can get the Elite hood lift, made from Stainless Steel and comes with a 4 year factory warranty on parts! You may use these units on fiberglass and Carbon Fiber hoods with a aftermarket hood kit.

Pricing is unbelieveable! :)

Standard: $52.00 shipped to the lower 48 states!
Elite: $112.00 shipped to the lower 48 states!!

These are not yet on our site, but we have already sold 5 sets!!!

Its interesting that they use different mounting spots than the tein and others ive seen on nasioc. Instead of mounting low on the hood and farther forward in the engine bay like others, these mount high on the hood and close to the winshield. How is the travel response on these? IOW, when do they start to push the hood up, how far must the owner lift the hood before these carry the weight themselves? They do look nice and the price is great. I just might get a set but the drilling sounds a bit suspicous.

My roommate just ordered a set direct from Redline for his Mustang and they should be in early next week. I'm going to check out the product in person before I decide between these and the Tein's. The price is right, but I don't know about the drilling part.

JnJ, do you think brackets could be made to make these a bolt in setup like the other brands?

Egan, you have mail. :)

Guys, these are high quality units manufactured by a company that is so confident in their product, they offer a 2 and 4 year all parts warranty on their hood struts. Who else offers that type of warranty for a product like hood struts?? Honestly, no one that I know of...:)

Many of the Mustang/Focus guys swear by RedLine's products and have recieved a write up in a few Mustang mags...

As for becoming a bolt on item, I doubt it, not without a lot of re-engineering. The bolt on sets use existing mounting holes. The design and mounting points afford you more room to work under the hood. The Redline sets are great for those guys who have CF and fiberglass hoods, as they have been set up to be modified to work with them... As opposed to the other brands that out right state they will not work with aftermarket hoods.

If you want to see how they are installed and a video of how they work take a look here...
http://redlinetuning.com/QL-SUBARU-WRX-0205.html

BTW, I would not carry an item if I did not feel confident in the quality of the merchandise. Our goal is to provide high quality items at prices eveyone can afford.:)

How do these compare to the Teins in terms of how high the hood goes? How do they compare to stock?

JnJassociates
02-08-2005, 05:07 PM
The Redline units raise the hood about the same as the Tein units, which is higher than the stock prop rod. What we found is the Redline units are more 'out of the way' compared to the Tein units because of where and how they mount. Giving you more maneuverability under the hood.

Both are high quality units, the Redline units are easy to paint or polish up the Stainless models. The Tein comes only in Tein green ( a good thing I think ;)).

Remember we have the Standard for an amazingly low price of $52.00 shipped and the Elite which is made from SS for a little bling for only $102.00 shipped.
They come with an ALL PARTS warranty. Best in this segment. Take advantage now. so you can sport these at the next meet or show... :)

I'm sure with the new Legover out, there will be plenty that will want it for the '05+ cars. But if you did a Legacy GB, would you include all models that Redline makes?

More importantly, are you going to do one for the BD/BG 95-99 models?

When we say Legacy we are talking both BD/BG and B5. The B5 I understand is in planning stages right now...

What we try to do is show the manufacturer that there is a need for their product in a certain segment. After that, it takes a little time and patience... :)

Are there any performance differences between the Elite and Standard other than one being stainless steel (i.e. amount of hood travel, better shocks/tubes/ used, mechanisms)? $52 shipped for the standard is a tempting price compared to $102. I know you probably get what you pay for with the Elite one, but I'm not sure if I need the extra bling and possibly added benefits of it. I'll most likely paint them anyways.

JnJassociates
03-01-2005, 04:00 PM
Hank, how are ya?

There is no operational difference. The difference is that the Elite units are stainless and come with a longer parts warranty. Four years vs. two years for the Standard.

We like to offer choices. :)

Thanks for clearing things up for me. Are you able to get the Standard ones for an '00 Eclipse with the hood bracket hardware since he has a carbon fiber hood? I know that the Redline site offers them, but I'd rather give you business - customer loyalty :)

I figured I'd order a set for myself and brother to save on shipping. I may order some more Shining Monkey too. Spring is right around the corner and Summer will be here before you know it, so I need to stock up on some cleaning agents too.

Just got back into town and my Standard set was waiting for me. First impression is that the directions are BY FAR the most detailed and accurate I've seen from ANY aftermarket parts purchase. Full-color photos of every step, detailed list of what you'll need to install as well as lots of helpful hints along the way. It's a small detail, but this kind of thing really instills confidence in the product. Impressive.

As far as the components, like I said I got the standard kit, and wasn't disappointed. Everything arrived in great condition, individually bagged, and the pieces all look to be of very high quality. You definitely get a lot for the $50 this kit costs. Two thumbs up.

Will post more info on install/issues when I get to it.

Are there any issues with leaving the hood open for extended periods of time (weeks)? Will this prematurely wear out the dampers?

JnJassociates
03-25-2005, 06:52 AM
Egan, as with any other hood strut set up, including OEM, it will reduce the life of the strut. One way around it would be to use a small block of wood on each side to add support. If you wrap the blocks of wood with cloth it will not scratch or mar your paint. If you really plan on leaving your hood open for that long, I would suggest removing it. If your hood is open that long, you are either removing something or fixing something, in which case removing the hood is the best way to go about it...

great product. i just installed mine yesterday.. a friend got em for me for my birthday. i didnt even know these existed till he started talkin about em, i was gonna buy the more expensive TEIN ones, but they interfere with working on the car..which i do quite often.
its definatly worth the 20-30 minutes or so it takes to install these, they definatly have easy to follow instructions with clear pics.
i've seen the Teins in person and installed these on my car, these are definatly less in the way.

heres mine:
http://www.pbase.com/roamin/image/44700917.jpg
http://www.pbase.com/roamin/image/44700922.jpg

and with the hood closed, they dont fully compress, so even if you mess up while installing the brackets, they wont prevent the hood from closing.

if the hood is aluminum, i'd say they'll work. the hood couldnt have changed THAT much, and the fender mounts are exactly the same, so i'd say they'll work assuming your hood is as light as a WRX hood.

somehow i doubt these will hold up a steel hood as easy as a aluminum.

anyone with a 02+ RS have these?... RS's have steel hoods, so i'd say if they work on the RS they'll work on the 9-2X.

BTW, nice choice.. arent they cheaper than a WRX wagon with all the discounts they're throwing out there?

Just got done installing. Very easy. Took about 30 minutes. The lifting/closing action is great. They give a lot of assist going up, but back off and gently stop at the top. It does not require a lot of pressure to shut and it basically drops at the end so you don't have to "press" the latch closed.

I know the Legacy's hood weighs a TON compared to the WRX hood, but that won't be an issue shortly.

i would assume clearance issues and hood weight is what makes them modle specific.

holes must be drilled in both the inner fender mount and the hood.(none visable when its all closed)

i imagine they'd work on a Legacy with carbon/aluminum hood, as long as you measure the same as the WRX instructions say to.. but dont go by my word on that... i dont know if they will actually FIT under the hood on the legacy

I installed these this past weekend. I color matched the brackets just so it looked a little more factory. The hood lifts a bit higher than it would with the OEM hood prop. The teins may bolt on, but they obstruct the engine bay.

It was a simple install, however the brackets that go on the hood are specifically made for the WRX and the 9-2x hood is a bit different where the brackets go. I made it work, but you have to be a little more careful about positioning these then you would have to with a WRX.

Check it out...

I have a 2005 STi and I would like to get the standards because they are black. However, on your site, the listing says:

RedLine Hood Lifts Standard(WRX)

and

Redline Elite Hood Lift (WRXSTI)

Just to be sure - there is no functional or mounting differences between the Standard and the Elite - correct?

Thanks,
BFarm

None, the diffrence is one is stainless steel and comes with a 4 year parts warranty and the standard comes with a two year parts warranty.

They are in stock and ready to ship! :)

I installed the standard hood dampers on my car last night... no issues, they fit and work great. Fast delivery, too.

Will these work on the GC aluminum hood? (sorry if it's been answered, I didn't feel like reading all 5 pages...)

Anything can be modified... The question becomes how much needs to be modified...

As of right now, we do not have the answer. If anyone would like to try, we have them in stock and ready to deliver...

Check your mail. :)

If you had specified that it was for a WRX in your order, we would have been able to get it out to you sooner... ;)

Got them today--thanks! I'm in the middle of the swap so all hoods are off, but when the engine is in I'll see how hard it is to get them to work on a GC hood. Stay tuned...
