I heard you can get a good boost controller and have it tuned to your specs. I also heard that you can bolt on IHI STi turbos on and run your car fine. Is this true? Can I install a VF39 and run a nice boost controller with stock injectors?

yea you could but you dont have the Ignition timing, complete fuel control along with a hole mess of Parameters you`ll be missing out on.

No... but with 1800 posts I'd have thought you would know the answer to this already. You need bigger injectors to run bigger turbos safely. Also, a boost controller isn't going to do anything for you if you cannot dump the additional fuel in. 16psi out of the stock turbo and 16psi out of a VF39 is not the same amount of air (CFM). Also different turbos have different boost characteristics which will not match the stock wastegate control maps programmed in the ECU... the list goes on.

Someone recommended me a bigger IHI turbo, FMIC, Intake, and boost controller for a cheap set up that will run fine stock.

somebody is not smart...EM is your friend, boost controllers are pretty much crap on their own.

VF-39 + intake+ fmic + mbc= BOOM!!!!

w/o injectors, larger fuel pump, and propper EM.

Like Wallace Shaun in Vegas Vacation, "Why don't you just give me your money and I'll kick you in the nuts"

fine? ummm... no

If your going to spend the money on everything else why skimp on the EM?

well, if you are looking for a good reason to upgrade the block or something, then yeah, i would say run with out EM. cause then for sure you would need a new block, and pistons, and a ton of other awesome stuff. i say go for it and report back what new stuff you got.

With out the upgrade injectors your not going to get much.
You'll max out, and bye bye motor.

Just as I thought. I knew engine management was one of the most important mods. Some people think they know everything.

You would be surprised the difference a UTEC would make on a modified car. Not just a UTEC, but other types of EM would have just about the same results, just the UTEC gives you more flexibilty.

I "might" agree with you if lived at say 6000+ ft asl. But if you are at sea level then the answer is a no you cannot run a larger than stock turbo on the stock fuel system "safely".

Problem with Ecutek is that they charge 200 bucks to tune. UTEC is user tunable, but who the hell knows how to tune their own car?

KingPin charges $100 a reflash. Vishnu is $150. Don't know where you get $200. And a custom tuning session is usually just the cost of the dyno time and tuner, depending on the shop.

And given the large number of Utec users out there, I would venture a guess that people are able to learn how to tune to at least a limited degree.

ECUtek doesn't charge anything extra once you buy a license. Your local dealer may. My local guy only charged me if I needed to get on the dyno. Even if you get a Utec you still need a proper dyno tune so that money is a wash.

You can't run any other turbo on the stock injectors.
