View Full Version : Hydra Users: Anyone know the Hydra injector mapping?
wgknestrick 02-02-2005, 08:20 PM The Hydra can use 1-8 injectors and they are numbered accordingly. But the Hydra can only fire them consectively, IE 1,2,3,4, not 1,3,2,4.
So how do the Hydra injector #s map to the EJ cylinder #s?
I am trying to add a small % of fuel to my #4 cylinder.

Use the auto tune feature, the AFR map on it are concider very safe, which means all 4 cycle with run slightly richer. Which means you'll run even richer on #4cycl. by adding more fuel. If you want to aggressively tune it, it's more like how to subtract fuel on other three cycl.

Yes, so it's Inj 1 (cylinder 1), Inj 2(cylinder 3), Inj 3 (cylinder 2), and inj 4 (cylinder 4).

This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The autotune feature will assure that the combined AFR will hit the prescribed target. Raising one cylinder or dropping the other three should have the same effect (post autotune).
wgknestrick 02-04-2005, 06:43 PM This is not a work around for total engine AFR, but a way to raise or lower a cylinder's AFR individually. I can be argued that cylinder #4, then cyl #2 run hotter, and leaner than 1 or 3. These are by far the most damage prone cylinders (not arguable), so (if you wanted) you could add a couple% more fuel to help give you a little bit of a safety net on those individual cylinders.
Check out this thread for some info and please note that this is not endorsed by Phil or Element Tuning. If you read throughout the thread, data is presented that show that this could be related to the header setup as EGTs were lower and more even with a GPmoto header.

MojoHand 02-04-2005, 07:35 PM I wasn't suggesting that that it had anything to do with setting the total engine AFR; your intentions were obvious. I was simply pointing out to jlee that raising one or lowering three will result in the same end result, albeit with slightly different values in the base fuel map post autotune.

Just be careful with how much fuel you add to individual cylinders. I've experimented a little but to do this safely you will need to tap all 4 exhaust ports on the manifold and either move your one probe around while plugging the others, or use 4 separate probes. In all honestly probes can vary so you may just want to use one probe and move around the cylinders.
Keep boost moderate and try averaging 4 similar pulls per cylinder, with the same tank of gas, and it the same tuning area. Take note of your coolant and air temps during the runs to make sure they are as close as possible.
From most of the engines I've seen taken apart it's pretty apparent that 2 and 4 indeed either run leaner or hotter as there’s usually significantly less carbon build up.
