sorry to say that there is a chance that my wagon is totalled. everyone in the car was unharmed. next order of bus.= parts. my question is about unmarrying the AP from the ecu in a wrecked car. i am pretty sure that the car will not see any power from the battery. is there other way to unmarry the ecu? is there something cobb can do? or is it something i should just include in the insurance claim? thanks to all....hope to have a new suby soon.

If you can take the ecu out and plug it into a working car you can unmarry it. Thats what i had to do becuase when i swaped motors i forgot to unmarry it. Or you can send it to cob but that will cost some money. You best bet is to take the ECU with you.

I would say take the ECU if you can. It's probably the safest thing you can do. Like FLIWRX said, you could always drop the ECU in another car to unmarry the AP.

I'm not sure if the ECU needs to just have power to it to be able to unmarry the AP or if it's more complicated than that. At the very least, you can prove that you had the AP married to that ECU if it should be necessary.

You should also check and see if you're fortunate enough to have power in the car still ... Tow/impound yards frown upon any kind of work being done on your car, but wouldn't notice you un-marrying it ... It's a fight to get your plates, and anything in the glovebox out up my way ... They would notice you taking out the ECU though ... Unless your wrecked car is at your house, then that's a moot point ...

the car is at an impound lot but i was there to get other stuff out. how long does it take to get the ecu out and what is the best way to get it out(location of ecu). what tools would be needed. if i cant get to it, i may just try to claim it as part of the insurance claim. $600 is $600.
thanks

I know you have to pull up the carpet on the passenger side footwell. More than that, I am not sure. I did a quick search on scoobymods and didn't find anything.

Location is under the radio and you need to remove the center console. About a 15 minute job if you know where the screws are, but it is not a stealth job, some big interior parts need to be removed (like the center console.)

Jon,

Your ECU is located on the passenger side floor under the carpet. Just pull it back from the top and you will see the metal plate covering it. Unbolt that and your ECU is held down by two bolts. If you can get your ECU out, that is best. You can send it to me and I can unmarry it at no charge for you. If you can't get to your ECU, you begin to have less options but I would still be willing to work something out for you.

Give me a call if you have any questions.

Just to note, this may be the beginning of a big change at Cobb. It used to be $400, and we don't want to hear any whining about your wrecked car... I guess they heard enough potential customers concerns. :furious: Props to the change! :D
