View Full Version : AP Stage 1 and Heatsoak??

First of all, I did a search and didn't find as much info as I need. Second, this is not an AP rant, but I merely want to see if others are having a similar issue.

I just got an AP a week ago and reflashed my ECU to Stage 1 91 octane CA. Overall I am VERY pleased with it. The car pulls a lot harder now. :)

One peculiarity I've noticed is peak boost. 90 percent of the time I'm hitting target boost (14.7 or so is the target). The 10 percent when I don't hit target boost is after I've driven the car, let it sit for a short time, and start driving again (i.e. if I drive to the grocery store, shop, and drive home). Sometimes I'll only see 13 psi or so.

My question is: is this due to heatsoak? I was able to find one post where someone said the AP seems to be sensitive to heat soak (in regards to peak boost), and that once things cool off things get back to normal.

Has anyone else experienced this? Like I said, this is not a rant (I'm happy with the AP), but more due to curiosity to see if this is the norm or not.

TIA!

Sounds like you need I/C sprayer for that 10%.Our I/C's are on top. . so they heat soak. You suffer more then me. I have bigger air scoop, bigger I/C and I/C sprayer at my fingertips.
Id try and do a experiment with putting ice on your I/C and go out and drive and see if it changes. .. . Someone in here put dry ice on their I/C on the dyno and picked up I think 30 ft lbs. Dont quote me on that :D

Thanks ADR. So what you're saying is that the issue I'm having is not an AP-related issue, but a general heatsoak issue that all WRX's are susceptible to?

Great idea about trying ice to see if it pulls my peak boost up.

Crappy gas? Try Higher octane or different gastation. :)

Forget the ice. Buy a big one of those computer duster cans, turn it upside down and empty it out on the IC. it works

Correct. This is not an AP specific issue.
