Of these two that i have listed what do you guys think I should go with, now i know that is a broad question but i just wanted to know from people who had these setups and what they thought about them...the only reason im somewhat hesitant about the UTEC is because ive seen so many people selling it, why is that? I can get the UTEC basically for 1050 with remote map switch tuned for my specific setup on a mustang dyno and the Ecutek would be around 900...what do you all think i shoudl go with?
my long term plans are :
FP Green, injectors, FMIC, walbro pump, uppipe
and this is all for a daily driving vehicle with maybe a high octane gas map as well (in which case i know the UTEC has its advantage)
any comments?
Thanks a bunch

Imo ecutek>utec unless you want to tune the car yourself.

do you want to be able to tune it yourself?
do you want to be able to turn the key and go?
those are the big questions you need to answer.

i dont care to tune it myself, but i'ld like it to be tuneable by a compitent tuner which i do have access to locally

Also, do you want to be able to switch maps on a whim? EcuTek does not have this ability, where as a UTEC does.
This was important for me, and made my decision to go UTEC over EcuTek.

ya actually i like that feature of the UTEC because i want a high octane drag strip map as well
the only thing left now is im kinda weary of it being a piggy back, should i have any concerns with that?

Why would you change up-pipes? (youe STi already has a flex cat-less up-pipe)
Does you local tuner have Ecutek? - That's a really important question...

i like my ecutek over my utec...but i got frustrated with the utec cause of shift knock and what not...but out of all the cars ive rode in the ecutek cars seemed smoother. im real happy...if you got the money run em both and you can have ur race maps and what have you.

I dont know why I wrote the uppipe there, i meant downpipe because right now i have a hks downpipe but i want to go with a bellmouth downpipe...oh there definitely is a local Ecutek tuner and a good one at that, but can i get a UTEC tuned so i dont have the shift knock and what not?

yes. there is no reason to have knock with a utec equipped car. it can--and should--be tuned out completely.

ECUTek and UTEC are completely different ends of the spectrum in many ways.
ECUTek has a finer resolution in the maps and has more correction maps for when it's cold, hot, etc
ECUTek has very little interaction for the end user but does provide a couple simple adjustments like pulling a some timing/adding some fuel across the board to get you through states with bad gas, etc, but really with the correction maps that are built in, you don't need it
ECUTek has only two switchable boost maps whereas UTEC has space for 6 completely different maps.
ECUTek is smooth - UTEC always has a chunky feeling throttle (i've never been in a UTEC car without this tps hesitation)
ECUTek can disable certain CELs while leaving the CEL functional for other important problems while UTEC either turns it on or off and uses it for knock-blinking

If I ordered an ECUtek ECU from a mail order place and ran that for a while then had it remaped, could anyone remap it that have the ECUtek tools?

Yes, anyone could remap it.
