View Full Version : B9 Spotted in CT on I-95 north
SubaruImpreza_power 02-05-2005, 05:21 PM My mom spotted this one for me.. near exit 19 north.. it was the red-orange color..
Her words what she told me when she saw it...
"The front looks like a design from the 60's"
"I don't forsee it being a good seller"
Anyways I wonder what was it doing going North?? Canada maybe? Or maybe dealerships in the Northeast?
balbino 02-05-2005, 05:39 PM Ive seen one at a gas station in Lafayette Indiana. Of course that is only just 2 miles down the road from where they are built.
SubaruImpreza_power 02-05-2005, 05:44 PM this was on a Shipping truck at the very front on the top.
Subie Gal 02-05-2005, 10:36 PM i know there are at least 12 of them... :D

SubaruImpreza_power 02-05-2005, 10:39 PM that reminds me.. Jamie, what do they do with the B9's at the auto show? does Subaru themself's keep it or do they go to the showroom to be sold?
Subie Gal 02-05-2005, 10:52 PM eeeeeeeeeeeew... i'm not sure.
most of them would be pre-production
meaning, not 100% complete.
the one i saw at the show didnt have the 'ground lighting' or 'rear lighting'
it will probably be used as a publiticy car for the year, then possibly someone's demo.
after that? who knows..... sold off as a used demo to some john/jane doe :D

Jon [in CT] 02-05-2005, 11:24 PM Nevermind.
Wheels 02-05-2005, 11:35 PM I think they get given as test samples to be smashed and crashed for the Highway safety tests.
Subie Gal 02-05-2005, 11:49 PM well ... from his reaction, Jon would prolly know more on that than i do.
i have no clue what they do w/the commercial/promotional vehicles and am just guessing here... :D
icobob 02-06-2005, 12:52 AM well they may come back here to the plant we have a showroom or they could go to one of our MANY white shirts to drive or we have so many cars around the plant that cant be sold to do this or that.

When you get done testing that twin-turbo, 6-cylinder, 6-speed Baja, and you don't know what to do with it, let me know.
I'll be glad to take it off your hands, as long as I can register it here in the People's Republic of New York. :D :D ;)
Keep it under 90, folks!
AWDPilot 02-06-2005, 09:32 AM It was probably headed up to Subaru of New England (Ernie Boch's corporate entity, distributor for all of the New England subaru dealerships)

"Come on down!"
speedemon9 02-06-2005, 02:42 PM is anyone planning on buying a B9
hondaslayer 02-06-2005, 02:53 PM Most likely going for emissions testing.
Jamie, that black Tribeca is sooooooo hot. I got to see it here in Detroit (at a warehouse,it was not on display)
Jon [in CT] 02-06-2005, 04:26 PM Most likely going for emissions testing.I would imagine that all emissions testing occurs in Ann Arbor, either at the EPA's lab or at FHI's facility there.
I imagine the Tribeca spotted in CT was headed to Subaru of New England HQ. They sometimes develop their own optional accessories and probably need an actual car to insure proper fitment.

Already have dibs on the first one at the dealership. Now I just need to get my wife to agree on "sooner" than "later", but YES, it WILL be my next vehicle! ATlantic Blue Pearl baby, all the way! :D

they get passed around to media groups like Car and Driver, and Road and Track.
rogerd 02-06-2005, 09:12 PM Many pre production vehicles simple get crushed. In the case of the Tribeca, this is an advantage - at least there are fewer that people have to look at.
Zuffy 02-07-2005, 12:16 AM I wonder when the STi version is coming? :)
Jon [in CT] 02-07-2005, 09:20 AM Many pre production vehicles simple get crushed. In the case of the Tribeca, this is an advantage - at least there are fewer that people have to look at.I'm pretty sure Subaru doesn't crush any cars. Subaru calls the cars that are used at auto shows and press events "early production." Here's a recent recall that involved early production 2004 Subarus with the turbo 2.5L engine:
http://152.122.48.13/prepos/files/Artemis/Public/Recalls/2004/V/RCDNN-04V473-8634.pdf
When the auto shows and press events end, SOA employees sometimes get these early production cars as a company car. When SOA decides to get rid of them, they are listed for sale on SubaruSOLD.com, a site accessible to Subaru dealerships which SOA uses to dispose of cars that come off lease, cars damaged during shipment, etc.. If the early production cars don't sell there, they move on to public auctions, like those conducted by Manheim.
North Ursalia 02-07-2005, 04:07 PM Dealerships call these cars "program cars" (well, we do up here). I'd run from a program car if it was me buying :).

Filanwizard 02-08-2005, 03:45 AM maybe also doing some road testing before final release? i mean if you want to test suspension then I-95 through CT is probally like going offroad.

My husband and I got a "program car" a little over 2 years ago. We put close to 40K miles on it, and put nothing into it but gas, oil, and a new set of tires. Our little 2.5 RS wagon (bye-bye bugeyes <sniff>) was such a great car we bought another Subaru.
What I'd be running from is a B9- that front end is the ugliest friggin' thing I've seen in a very long time. :alien:

there's a difference between demo cars and program cars..... sometimes salesmen use the synonomously when they are two different animals :)

Hmmm I guess my mom beat to to something finally.
