On Jan 14, 2005, SOA reported two seperate overseas safety recall campaigns involving the New-Gen Legacy to NHTSA - SOA is required to report such recalls to NHTSA by the TREAD Act.

One involves a rear brake caliper bolt on certain models and affects 63,215 units sold in Japan and 14,006 sold elsewhere in the world outside of North America, including China. So I guess that 1st ever Subaru recall in China reported at http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=711015 was legit. The details of the recall are at:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/prepos/files/Artemis/Public/Foreign%20Campaigns/2005/F-Campaigns/FRCL-05F002-3657.PDF.

The other recall is a bit bizarre. It's detailed at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/prepos/files/Artemis/Public/Foreign%20Campaigns/2005/F-Campaigns/FRCL-05F003-3515.PDF and involves 12 units that were pulled from the assembly line for "rectification." Workers (a worker?) replaced the fuel pump and gasket on those units and manged to mangle the gaskets in the process. Now get this - "Remedy is to install new fuel tank assembly."

God forbid that SOA would ever spend the money to recall the US 2002 WRX for replacement of its defective fuel pipe and hose.

Hmmmm....I wonder how that first one will affect those U.S. 2005 Legacy owners that have imported the larger 20mm JDM bar from overseas? I guess they could have the problem and never know about it....

I know it's not S.O.A.'s problem since they didn't sell the part...

I know it's not S.O.A.'s problem since they didn't sell the part...I guess it could affect the folks who've been importing/installing either the 19 or 20mm rear stabilizer bars. It would behoove these purchasers to now insure they've purchased the re-designed bushings and clamps designed to prevent this failure.

Isn't the gray market great?
