I have a problem with a 1997 Impreza sedan. The door ajar light and interior dome light stay on constantly. I have been completely unable to troubleshoot the problem, and it is getting extremely annoying. My first thought was that it had to be one of the switches in the doors, but they all appear to be working. It seems that there should be an easy solution, but it is escaping me.
Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks.

Try unplugging the door switches. That will tell you for sure if any of your switched are bad. Unplugged= closed door.

Unplugged = closed door? So if the switch is unplugged, the lights should stay off, correct? Then using a multimeter, I should be able to get continuity through the switch when the door is open, and none when closed, correct?
If so, I'll give it a try. I suspected a gound issue, and checked the switches for ground, which they all appear to have.

Thanks.

trunk?

Good question, I never thought of that one. And now that you mention it, it makes sense I have a trunk mounted CB antenna that even though it's been there for years, could be having an effect.

The trunk switch won't keep the interior light on.
This is probably just a matter of one switch not being aligned properly so closing the door doesn't depress it fully enough to open the contacts.

This is exactly what I originally thought too. So I went to home depot, and bought some of those stick on felt chair glides. They stick to the bottom of the feet of chairs so they don;t scratch the floor. I stuck them on the doors aligned with the switches., and still no success.

Not a bad idea, but better to do some further electrical troubleshooting to isolate the faulty switch.
