View Full Version : When will the GC/ GM Impreza RS level off?

Since th GC/ GM RS is a rare car (in mass production standards anyway) and fewer of them are in existence every year, what are your opinions on when the prices for these cars will level off?

I have watched somewhat similar cars go through this cycle and my guess is 2008-2010. IMO, the prices might even rise slightly (esp. MY98 models), although that depends on many factors such as demand, current models being offered, the SOA corporate direction at that point in time, etc, etc.

Anyway, please post your thoughts on this subject.

IMO it's nice to have a car that doesn't depreciate as much as the rest. Just look at all the threads from guys with STi's and WRX's complaining about how their car has lost 8K+ in only a year. I bought my 01 RS in July with only 11,500 miles on it, I paid a pretty penny ($14,500 USD) but still think I got a great deal, considering I often see cars with higher mileage go for more $$$. Like you said, as every year passes there are less and less of them on the road, and the demand stays the same or increases. I agree, I think GC prices will be stable for a relatively long period to come. Especially when Subaru does a facelift every 2 years with looks that arent too appealing, guys often want to go back to the GC because IMO they look the best. Bugeyes are losing so much value since the new 04-05 models came out, and the 04-05 will do the same when that new facelift occurs (06-07?)

Its nice to have a nearly 5 year old car that has retained about 80% of its new value.

In fact, the car is worth about the same as what I paid for it 2 years ago.

i figure they will hover around 6-6.5k in a few years. with higher milage comes greater maintenance costs. and u can always get an L to do a swap which are cheaper.

Definetly the way to go with the L's, your'e most likely changing out all the suspension, brakes, engine and tranny (eventually) anyways. Minus a sunroof, hood and front bumper its exactly the same car.

Up here they are still going for a fair amount, but prices are dropping steadily and slowly. Its getting increasingly harder and harder to find one without a blown headgasket or has been totally trashed to hell by previous owners. The GC's are a gem and will quite sought after even more so in the near future.

Thanks for the comments.

Brad, I post a decent amount but primarily in the SE forum. ;)

I agree about the L comment since until recently I had an L and an RS.
I just think the RS wil prevail in keeping a larger percentage of it's value since it is simply a rarer (is that a word?) car.

I owned a MY99 RS a long time ago and now own a MY00 with a MY04 WRX swap (bought it that way). I doubt I'll ever sell this one since I'm sinking soooo much money into it and finally making it a truly awesome car.

Anyhoo, back on the subject...

Unless I encounter some catastrophe, my car will be in my possession forever.

Yeah i tend to agree guys.

No plans on giving mine up....

Funny to think tho that even w/the mileage I have on him right now,
I can probably sell 'em for $15k....

that's good value.

yea 02 Wrx can be had for like 16k IS IT?

finding an RS was a bitch.. I'm not going to lie... I just gave up.. Subaru only made a few which did not help..

HOWEVER...

I think if Subaru had a turbo model here of the GC models I think that they would of sold a whole bunch more.. More due to styling.
