hey nasioc. i am going to install a boost and egt gauge in my 05 sti. i have been searching and looking at other people's ideas, but i am not a fan of having my gauges in the open. i want to know if any else has a set up where it is not an 'a pilar mount', 'clock pod set up', or the 'steering column'. does any one have the gauges in the glove, or customized the cigarrette ash tray area? anyone else have a suggestion? thanks.

What about sticking it in the vent directly to the left of the steering column? A few people have done that.
Edit:
Just noticed you want to have two gauges... I don't know where you'd stick the second one. By 'steering column' do you mean that you are opposed to a setup like the Autometer bezel pod that puts one gauge on either side of the stock gauge cluster?

i stuck mine in my pass vent
my vents are rect and so is my gauge but urs are round/round so vents are a nice spot
PS id mount it in my spot because i think seeing the gauge from the position i mounted mine in is easier than the one by the wheel but i havent ridden in a wrx lately so maybe im mistaken

on our sti,
we have an aftermarket stereo and we mounted the gauge in a custom made single DIN pod above the stereo.
we bought the single din pocket, used some thin wood, and a hole saw for the gauges.
I then epoxied the wood to the pod and painted it to match the dash material. I did have to cut out an opening on the backside of the pod to allow the wires to come through and to get in to tighten the mounts to hold the gauges in.
looks nice and OEM if you dont mind losing your stock stereo for something better sounding.

(1) General gauge thread
There's a big thread with how people place their gauges, some of which are somewhat custom. You may find what you're looking for here:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=255488
(2) Cigarette ash tray & Glove compartment
Imho, the cigarette ash tray and glove compartment areas are too far for gauges that change frequently. For things like temp and voltage, then those locations should be ok.
(3) AVO pod
There's also the AVO pod that sits on the bottom of the a-pillar, so it is relatively more hidden than the a-pillar setup, but still easily visible to the driver.
(4) Center Vent & Speedo/tach cluster bezel shroud
The center vent area and the oem speedo/tach cluster bezel/shroud can also be replaced/modified to mount gauges, and have them not scream "look at me" too much imho. Below are 2 pics from a thread I posted. Please ignore the caption on them.
For the speedo/tach cluster bezel mount:

(2) On an SG Forester:

For the center vent replacement, in which you can have various possibilities of 2 vents + 1 gauge to 3 gauges (+ 0 center vent):

Pedestrian's view when walking nearby, looking in through the passenger side. The boost gauge is barely noticeable.
