I finally had time to take my Legacy GT in for service today, to take care of a broken trunk mat hanger, a broken floor mat clip and for the issue I've been having of my car drifting to the left.
At 9 am, I take my car in, and Jack Martz handles my claim. I tell him all the problems I've been having with the car, and he puts estimates for each part into the computer, when I ask him to notify me beforehand if there will be any charges for maintenance. He then tells me no, and that it's illegal to perform maintenance without authorization. That would prove to be ironic later on.
As he approaches my car, he asked me "Did you buy it here?" (probably after seeing my Irvine Subaru license frame) which raised a red flag in my mind. Anyways, I give him the keys, and signed off on the work after reading the contract.
I came back for the car at 11:30 am, when I see Jack and he tells me that they're finishing off and that it was "apparently" high tire pressures that was causing my drift problems, and the tires were rotated, and repressurized.
As I go to the cashier to pick my car up, she tells me that it would be $45 for the service that was performed. I then look for Jack and he's standing right behind me, probably anticipating my question. He tells me that "We're a business- we have to make money, these guys did a lot to fix the problem!"
I told him that I specifically asked him to call me if there was something to be done which they would charge me for. He told me that it was on the contract I signed, and I then told him that that's not he explained it to me as. He tells me that I can see his supervisor if I want to, in a condescending manner. The supervisor, Mr. Meir asks to hear my side of the story and calls Jack in. Jack tells him that "he doesn't wanna pay" (after trying to be all friendly with me earlier) and I tell him I didn't agree to pay for that. He then asks Jack to leave and summons the tech who worked on my car, Aaron. When Aaron comes, he asks if he put my car on the machine and if all tire pressures were equal. When he says that the tire pressures were equal and that he didn't put it on the machine, Mr. Meir says that the maintenance performed "couldn't have solved my problem" and decides to drop the charge, which saved me a lot of grief, since I was angry and confused enough already, and on the verge of raising hell. Thumbs up for him.
The final insult was when I went to the cashier to pick up my car and she says over the P.A "The young man's here to pick up his Legacy!" That explained a lot. I know one thing though, I'm never taking my car there again.
