Whats the trick to getting the lower cam pulley off the darn Sti block. That sucker seems to be frozen on. It's the bottom passanger side one. Tried an impact and it isnt coming off. All the others did.

I've had that same problem on two of the motors I built. I ended up using a punch and hammer after letting it soak with WD40 for a few hours. Then I just bought a new cam bolt. Sucks but it's worked twice. ;-)
Also the torque spec on that stupid thing is like 52ft/lbs!!!!!!

Drill the end of the bolt out a bit (which allows the bolt to stretch a little), then buy a new bolt for ~$8.

I used the special subaru tool to hold the cam pully while my 240 pound son pushed down on a breaker bar with a 2 foot extention from a jack handle. They all came off with a loud pop. No damage to the pully or bolt. PITA, probably a special gift from FHI engineers for people who want to mod the motor!

zing, that subaru tool is awesome. :)

If you strip it for whatever reason, drilling out works as does welding a nut to the end of the bolt.

Yes. I assume you mean to get it out since it is part of the AVCS lube system, right?

Took us 650ft.lbs. of impact and 2 bits to get ones off RiftsWRX's first motor. I think the torque spec is 76ft.lbs.

Yeah we were hitting it with a 950lb impact and it didnt budge. Finally borrowed the special suby tool and it came right off. All the other 3 came off fine. But that one was rediculous let me tell you!..

went to the subaru place and used their tool, i was gonna order them (top and bottom are different) but they were gonna be 200 + for the i think, and it was friday, and their credit system would take 24 hours to go through, so they wouldn't ship until monday, and it woulod take 3-5 days to get them. i wasn't waiting for that crap. i cant remember the name of the company that makes them, but you can't get them through subaru. but a couple of big ass dudes with the right tools, breaker bars, and chipped teeth on the cam still, they came off. but i used a strap wrench to put them back on. i dont understand why they wouldn't come off as easy.
