Need Money 02-18-2005, 03:19 AM I've been ready since like last year when it was supposed to come out.
02-elite-gettingwrx 02-18-2005, 04:16 AM I'm the damn co-driver, i helped him make it!!!

eurojax 02-18-2005, 05:58 AM Probably not going to be impressed with this game. The visuals released on the net are all "replays." And in replays, you can do the elite high-graphic rendering. When you play the game, your graphics are going to go down drastically.
Why the keep this on a PS2 and not on a PC where graphics will always be better than consoles? I'll never know. PS2 already has a console rival that is better than it graphic-wise.
I'll keep PGR 2 and RBR.
Enough about the game, that's a badass setup. You should give me one of the sparcos though :(
XR4Tim 02-18-2005, 11:28 AM Make it RHD :D
RyantheWalker 02-18-2005, 01:24 PM yeah dill..only you guys! looks like it'll be fun, just need to make a sunroof in your ceiling! WORD!
Getagrip 02-18-2005, 02:47 PM I'm very much looking forward to next week!

Bah, don't listen to him, his perception is obviously skewed. I mean he actually LIKED that steaming pile of game, PGR (1 or 2). Ewww.
:D

Graphics are an important factor in gaming these days but this game is all about the gameplay, the experience man, and if it looks half as good as gt3 did, probably better, well thats a damn fine looking game if you ask me. I cant wait to race the new rally tracks!
SOOBY 02-18-2005, 07:22 PM Looks sweet, seats make it.
I use one of those rocker seats from BestBuy, obviously required a mod to stop it rock.
Dash needs some Armorall though :D
Einsti3n 02-18-2005, 09:11 PM yeah i was actually thinking about painting it black just cause it looks kinda funny :P
02-elite-gettingwrx 02-18-2005, 09:22 PM Yeah you should paint it black and put some decals on it or something, that would look sick, who cares how nerdy we are :D
SOOBY 02-18-2005, 09:35 PM Carpet it in black, get a roll at Walmart for $9 or whatever. Just staple it on, like a Sub Box, then get blue neon in the foot well.
I love your setup
Einsti3n 02-19-2005, 12:42 AM lol i still ha ve soem carpet left over from the wrx sub box, and some spray adhesive.... lol i should do that. and thanks for the compliments everyone who didnt make fun of me :P ;)

In any other genre, I'd agree with you. But in racing sims, realism is the most important factor. I guess i've been spoiled with RBR and expect racing games to make it look like i'm actually there.

OrionAK 02-19-2005, 02:30 PM That's not your example of good graphics, is it Jax? :) I thought, aside from car damage, GT3's graphics were do-able. PGR is way too cartoony and the physics, while GT3's aren't real, were absolute ass. Plus the "drive like a goddam moron for more points" kudos system is a nice feature, but shouldn't be a mandatory setting.
Richard Burns Racing was OK, like Colin McCrae's was OK, but neither of them would find a place in my library. The above shot has an OK looking background, but that car looks out of place.
It's funny how people's impressions vary so much--I thought GT3 was an exellent example of good graphics, even on the dated PS2. The sky and background looked wonderful, especially since I was mostly paying attention to the road and who I can run off of it! :) I play with no dash or car model and enjoy watching the replay in higher res because it's the "first time" I've seen it.
Wes_FSTGDB 02-19-2005, 05:35 PM Haha yeah those graphics aren't the best. Racing games belong on console and First Person Shooters belong on the PC. Will GT4 come out on any other console? That sucks if it doesn't. I would love to try it out on Xbox, the graphics would kick ass.
I'm still working on Need For Speed Underground 2, I've been busy with WarCraft 3 lately, so I need to finish NFSU2. Maybe after that I'll look into picking up GT4.

The car looks "iffy" because I modeled it myself :p I should take a screenshot of one of the stock cars.
RBR has been one of the most graphically intense games I have played. It's not all just the beautiful scenery and high polygon cars, it's the fact that the road you're driving on has so much depth and variation in it. I have -yet- to see a game come close to RBR.
And CMR is a joke, it ranks up there with rallisport and all those other arcade rally games.
btn_turtle 02-19-2005, 07:15 PM that pic of the suby....is that a dog on the back of it??? and if so, why? haha
AK_2002_WRX 02-19-2005, 07:49 PM haha...if u dont visit OT much, no one would know about the dog...
GT4 is gonna r0x0r!!!!

Ah, OK, then, that's fair! :) As long as the game is fun to me, I'll be happy.
Thank goodness you said that about Colin McRae's game. I thought it was utter ass, but everyone else liked it! :)
I enjoy the "speed channel" feel of the WRC games, though. :)

I just did this one because I was bored. I was drunk, half asleep, playing Half-Life 2, watching Aqua Teen Hunger Force and talking on the phone, all at the same time. So it's not my best effort, just kinda threw it together. Took about 3 minutes.
 :D
02-elite-gettingwrx 02-21-2005, 04:00 AM hey i was just joking jax, that game does look fun, but i couldnt resist making fun
AK_2002_WRX 02-21-2005, 04:04 AM so does it come out tuesday? Best buy is advertising thursday? i am so skipping class the night it comes out!!! lol
00Maddog 02-21-2005, 04:27 AM I prebought at toys r us, I'll have to dig that receipt up. Didn't expect to have to wait so long.
02-elite-gettingwrx 02-21-2005, 04:18 PM best buy always releases their games a couple days later than the actual release date, i have no idea why. But yeah anyway gamestop will have it tomorrow, go there to get it.

Just stopped by Gamestop to reserve my copy of GT4 (yes, they still are taking pre-orders, atleast at 5th Ave), and the game ships to them on Tuesday (tomorrow). It will be in-store on Wednesday afternoon. The girl at Gamestop told me to expect it around 1pm or so on Wednesday.
02-elite-gettingwrx 02-21-2005, 08:51 PM the dimond store said they would have it tomorrow around 11am last i heard
NikFu S. 02-23-2005, 03:55 PM SVX + scrapped = me not getting GT4.
Im2wrxy 02-23-2005, 06:06 PM Someone let us know how it is...maybe post some screen shots. I don't have much time for games but if the reviews are high enough, I'll buy it for me and call it a present for my son.
SparkysJDMSpeedWagon 02-23-2005, 07:31 PM Just picked it up from GameSpot about an hour ago. Lots of fun so far! You have the option to use your GT3 save game file, so you don't have to start over, but I am starting from the beginning, just for fun. Vehicle physics are a million times more realistic, especially with regard to weight transfer (especially obvious under accel. and decel.) Like I said, I've only been playing for about an hour, but so far so great!
AK_2002_WRX 02-23-2005, 09:12 PM can u use your old cars?
svt_contour 02-23-2005, 09:22 PM its pretty sick, it lets you take your A and B licenses and gives you $100,000, which isnt really that much cash for a car, but ir helps a ton.
soldmyboxster 02-23-2005, 10:13 PM GOT IT! Gamespot rules. See you in about a week.
lover707 02-24-2005, 02:12 AM hey all.. i just got mine right before gamestop close..
i wanted to go to toysrus to get a 10 dollar wireless steering wheel.
but i cant wait.. just got home didnt even open it yet..
i hope it is great...
02-elite-gettingwrx 02-24-2005, 02:42 AM This game is epic, dill and i have been playing for about 6 hours srtait now and i cant stop. Physics are highly improved, modding cars is way cool now at the tuner shops, i pimped out a used 94 wrx sti at the HKS tuner shop, stage 3 turbo kit, racing intercooler, full exhaust, lightened it up, custom tranny.......the list goes on but this thing is killer, if your just starting i suggest buying a used car, much cheaper and they have some really cool ones, awesome game, more to come later, must keep playing.

AKSubie 02-24-2005, 02:02 PM Yeah, It's still on of the best console games out there though, I can't wait to get my copy. And from what I have learned in OT, there are Elitist's, Music Elitist's, beer Elitist's, cartoon Elitist's, and now even game Elitist's. To those Elitist's that want to be driving in a virtual car with 100% real physics, GT4 is evidently not for you, for the MAJORITY of gamers who could care a bit less, GT4 is the next installment of an awesome series.
I too find it interesting that the Game Elitists claim GT4 sucks and say back to CR2k5, and yet a more Elitist camp claims CR2k5 is not realistic.
Just my $.02

The elitist's will say "RBR" not CMR2005. :)
Well, I'll be first to say that it is probably a fun game. I have been playing GT since the original on PSone, I used to own my brother with the civic hatchback.
What my major issue is with GT4 is that they market it as a Racing Sim. I remember GT3 being about as "racing sim" as PGR2, but with crappier graphics. What's more is the amazing amount of hype that they built and everyone else built. If you build that much hype, delay the game for what, 2 years? You better come out with something ****in' mind boggling, not a game slightly better than the last installment.
They threw out screenshots that looked better than anything my GeForce 6800 GT could ever put out, until we found out they were "super hyped up replay shots."
SCEA and Polyphone Digital (and sony) really shot themselves in the foot by delaying so much. If you delay long enough, you'll always come short of expectations.
Not to bring RBR back into the convo, but SCi, who makes RBR, is a relatively unknown company. I mean, they've made some great games, but you'd never remember it (at least I don't). They didn't hype up RBR, they just threw it out there after obviously putting a lot of time in with Richard Burns and other rally experts. The game blew up, and until something better comes along, I think it's the epitomy of racing sim.
Viva La Forza!
SQUAD_907 02-24-2005, 02:28 PM i'm in no rush either... :D
lover707 02-24-2005, 02:59 PM i just upgraded my wrx sti spec c 04 wrb..
with everything.. and did the 400 under 9 sec..
8.699 sec.. i really love this game.. the dirt area is the
best.. u can even use nitro. just buy it and hold down R1..
cuts off like a whole sec..
just got off from playing it sine 9 pm last night.. but
now i gotta go to work..
side note.. did anyone one get shuttering frame rate..
i been getting it in a couple of the tracks..
02-elite-gettingwrx 02-24-2005, 09:33 PM yeah i get the framerate thing too sometimes..........must have all carbon fiber amuse skyline......must keep playing
SparkysJDMSpeedWagon 02-24-2005, 10:48 PM I have the same framerate problem on some tracks, just when the race is starting, but it goes away after maybe 20-30sec. I saw the Amuse Skyline, and my roommate was like "that looks just like the San Diego cop cars" and then tried to impress me with stories of him getting chased by cops n stuff, and I'm just like  "s.t.f.u...."
OrionAK 02-24-2005, 11:22 PM What my major issue is with GT4 is that they market it as a Racing Sim.
Issue solved! Right on the box it says it's a driving simulator, not a racing sim. :)
I think this guy hit the nail on the head: "I think a lot of the people that are disappointed expected too much IMO. Seems like some of you are actively trying to hate the game, quit picking nits. I can't wait til Forza comes out and y'all are disappointed in that too, well the xBox nutswingers prolly won't be but anyway....
-faast"
People are trying to hate it. I like it, it's fun. My used Ver. III STi is whooping but with minor mods, but then again I'm the kind of guy that drives the Nurburgring over and over again with no other cars on the course.
Gripes:
1) The layout for the Gran Turismo mode, with all the countries and other areas to go to, is too complicated (all spread out like that) and the way the cursor goes isn't intuitive.
2) Subaru got shafted: only one "classic" car and no Forester STi/XT? The only way to get the GC8 and Buggy is to buy used (or possibly win?). Oh well, at least the last two are available. I was also hoping for the option to buy US spec as well as Euro--I wanted my 227hp WRX.
3) Ram Hemi but no SRT-10 for sale, or classic Mustang (again, unless you can win them).
Other than that, the physics are fine, a bit better than the 3rd game, in that annoying weight-shifting-throwing-me-off kinda way. Not real (closer than others), but then again it's a Playstation game...
AK_2002_WRX 02-25-2005, 04:10 AM the handling it kinda weird....its takin a awhile to get used to...at least for me...other than that, the game looks great!
AK_2002_WRX 02-25-2005, 06:18 AM i think the handling sucks ass...i have 02 STi and it spins out like crazy....did it take anyone else awhile to get used to the new physics...or does my controller just suck ass and i need to get that wheel from Best buy? lol
02-elite-gettingwrx 02-25-2005, 09:14 AM lol you'll get used to it, if your spinnin out then get a tcs or asm system on there to help you. wow i been playin for......well too damn long, i'm actually in a race right now in b-spec mode, gots to get back to the douschtmen cup or whatever the hell its called.
SparkysJDMSpeedWagon 02-25-2005, 01:05 PM I hate the way that the AWD cars steer in the game...you're constantly fighting the front diff every time you turn. It takes some getting used to. On my Evo, I tightened the front stabilizer (a.k.a. sway bar) and loosened the rear. That helped turn-in a lot. Also, I think that messing with the rear toe and the front camber can help it too. It's amazing the difference that race slicks make vs. "sport" tires too. I won the BP JGTC FC3S and a couple 350Z's (one is the Z Concept LM, the other is a 700hp JGTC car) yesterday...FR cars are a lot more fun than 4WD is. What's the douschtmen cup? Is that a Euro race? I've only been doing the Japanese races, and the advanced races too.
02-elite-gettingwrx 02-25-2005, 06:11 PM Yeah its a european race, i won all the begginer, proffesional and most of the japanese events, i think the best part of this game are the rally events, not the offroad ones but the ones on tight tricky courses where you cant hit the walls and have to try and pass your opponent on a very narrow road, its like a touge race pretty much, hop in any lm race car and you garunteed to have some fun.
Minimaul 05-17-2007, 01:21 AM Mega-bump FTW!
I just set up my TV and PS2. I'm about ready to dip myself back into GT4. I haven't played in awhile and I need some kind of driving game. GT5 is a ways away, plus I don't have money for a PS3. Forza 2 is on the horizon but I don't have money for an Xbox360. So I'll have to make due with my trusty ole Launch Day PS2 and Gran Turismo 4.
I'd be tempted to buy a wheel, but I don't think it would be worth it since new games are on the way and that means new wheels. So I'll hold off on getting a wheel. Besides, I've used a controller to play since GT1; I think I can manage it again.
Anyone else still playing? Or want to play with me (not physically)? Maybe get some tournament type things going.
Here's a [really dark] picture I did when I first got the game.
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k307/minimaul/impreza21.jpg
I guess I could have put this in the game thread, but, meh. That's way to logical for me, I'm no Vulcan!

What sux is I was once pretty good at GT4, but since I started playing Forza, its hard to go back to the controls of GT4.
I hear ya. I want to get Forza2 but I bet it'll be weird for me since i'm a "GT" guy.
Jaylyons1 05-17-2007, 09:14 AM i play off and on, not really good enough for a tourny. Cant even get all my licenses!
Getagrip 05-17-2007, 12:41 PM GT4 events on the SCCA Arctic Alaska Region forum have kinda stopped since the summer real car Solo2 season is here. On once Forza2 comes out we can all play togther is real time on XBLive. I'm a GT prurist too, but man playing freinds on Live rules.
Anybody played the Forza2 demo yet? I've played a few times. So far so good.
PS rumor has it that an SCCA board member will be having a social open to SCCA members in June. The social said to be centered around GT4 with linked PS2s.

yeah, i'm real, real tempted to pick up an Xbox360. I just need to get rid of whole bunch of old games first.
That'd be awesome to do a GT4 social-gaming-event. I'd be down and would donate what ever I could to help.
i play off and on, not really good enough for a tourny. Cant even get all my licenses!
I'm on my second play through. I got about 40% percent done back when the game first came out. but then I started over with the intention of "learning to drive well." I got all my licenses again in bronze. Then after I got all of the bronze licenses I got all the silver licenses. Then after that I STARTED to get all golds. I only have 47 more golds to get  It's been a slow process, but I can probably get most of them before GT5 comes out. plus I could use the experience in learning to become a better (virtual) driver.
AKSubie 05-17-2007, 07:57 PM Forza2, GT4 and a gameshark will be on my list of things..

exactly haha. I got like 9,999,999,999 credits or something. bought every car, modded most of them. Only cars I couldn't buy are those ones not for sale. But I found a code that prices everything for 1 cr which turned all those not for sale cars into buyable ones. :D
00Maddog 05-17-2007, 10:48 PM need code now! :D
Mavrik 05-18-2007, 01:36 AM which ones? lol I got a few.
www.gameshark.com > PS2 > codes > Gran Turismo 4
GrinderAK 05-19-2007, 01:17 PM sigh, cheaters. *shakes head slowly*
Mavrik 05-19-2007, 01:36 PM Cheaters nothing. I paid my time playing for days on end to earn money for cars in GT1. As far as I'm concerned I have the right to have all the credits I want now because none of it can be transfered from older games... at least not large amounts any time you want. I still race the good old fashioned way... I just race for trophies, not money.
Kentobeanz 05-21-2007, 07:00 PM What sux is I was once pretty good at GT4, but since I started playing Forza, its hard to go back to the controls of GT4.
I had the same problem, and changed my controls for GT4:
Steer with the left stick (duh)
gas with right stick
L1=Ebrake
L2=brake
R1/R2 shift (don't remember which is which)
I don't remember what the rest of the buttons do now, but putting the brakes on the left front like the XB triggers definitely helped and makes it easier to go back and forth between the two games.
