So I installed the Stromung axle back exhaust last night, went uneventful. Driving this morning and I hear several times a clank. Does it going fast or slow. Tried to shake the exhaust to make it do it, but couldnt. Nothing appears to be near anything to hit. I imagine it has to be because of the exhaust, but cant figure out where. Any body else run in to a similar problem?
Thanks

I had a problem where the piping was hitting the diff. protector once but you could see that it was really close. Are you hitting bumps or dips in the road when it clanks? Is it happening under accelleration? Are all the bolts tight? Is it bumping the bumper itself? Just ideas of what it could be and places to look.

OK, noticed after driving again that it does it alot of the time when I hit square edged bumps, ie expansion joints on bridges. Its really loud, and really sharp sounding, like metal on metal with nothing touching eaither piece. There is a lot of clearence around the new exhaust,...I wonder if something somehow is loose inside the new muffler? Both bolts are tight.

Can you hit the bottom of the can and replicate the noise? I know you mentioned shaking it but maybe the best thing to do is to pull it off and shake it. That would tell you if anything is loose inside I would think. Do you have adequate clearance around the muffler itself? Say on the topside where the eat shielding is?

I just got back from a muffler shop. They put it on the lift, there is more than enough room around the whole thing. I took a rubber mallet and smacked the new piping leading to the muffler with no sound comming from it. The whole thing looks fine, he cinched down the bolts with an impact wrench, but made no difference.
I have no clue.

Maybe it is something else that just happened to rear its ugly head at the same time? Start checking suspension stuff I guess. If all is tight then I have no clue. Especially if hitting it did not reproduce any sounds. does it move enough to hit something?

I am thinking so,....Maybe something with the wheel or brakes. It only does it when moving, fast or slow. I found half a nail in the tire, I wonder if something broke off in the wheel itself? But the sound sounds like the rope hitting a flag pole, real loud and clangy.

Check all the bolts on the struts and strut towers. If the strut tower nuts come loose or if the nut on the strut piston itself comes loose things can rattle and make alot of noise pretty easily.
