Heres the deal: I have a 99 L that I have been trying to do a conversion on. The car was in perfect running condition before the conversion started, and I decided to put an 02 wrx motor into it. So I put in a complete 02 motor/tranny/diff and the car wont start. I double and triple checked the wiring and cant seem to find any problems. The car will turn but does not make spark. I tried replacing the plugs, coilpacks, and oem engine harness several times and still the same problem. I even borrowed wiring from a friend who has an 01 rs that had an 02 wrx motor in it and still the same problem. Any advice or info on what to check?

Check the yellow wire with a blue stripe.

So the ecu connects then? CEL light comes on with the key turned on before you crank right?
The motor can turn over without the ecu accually coming on.
If the ecu turns on and everything is fine, did you check fuel? I mean are the injectors working and it's simply the ignition that isn't working?
Depending on how you did the swap you shouldn't have touched any wires that should make only half the systems work and half not.

The yellow wire with the blue stripe provides power to the spark plugs, some sensors, I can't remember exactly what else. I messed it up once and had the same problem. Splice the same wire from the new harness and the old harness. PM me and I'll check my notes tonight.

the signal goes out from the ecu but by the time it reaches the engine harness it is gone, so the coils get no signal at all. fuel is definately going because i can smell it
thanks for the help, please keep it coming
