View Full Version : Jdm Ej20 west005 02-21-2005, 05:32 PM I got a JDM EJ20 closed deck shortblock. Matt Monson 02-21-2005, 06:37 PM They all are forged crank and rods. The pistons are cast and moly coated... napphappy 02-22-2005, 01:18 AM from what I understand the RS-RA had forged pistons west005 02-22-2005, 10:07 AM Cool thanks Matt Monson 02-22-2005, 12:37 PM from what I understand the RS-RA had forged pistons You are correct, but you also got a very rare engine in your car. Your engine also has solid lifters. But 99.5% of the EJ20G's out there are not this spec, and I was speaking to what this guy has. And there is ZERO, ZIP, NADA reason to spend your money on forged pistons if there is nothing wrong with yours. The moly coated cast pistons used on those old engines are very high quality pistons, but suit yourself if you want to spend $500-1000 on a 10 year old engine for practically no gains other than the ability to say you have forged pistons... west005 02-22-2005, 02:03 PM uh huh yeah phunkeeHomosapien 02-22-2005, 03:41 PM if your gonna do pistons you might as well do every thing west005 02-22-2005, 05:18 PM so there is no way to find out for sure? snowman4us 02-22-2005, 06:04 PM ur pistons are cast. ur bottom end should be good for around 400WHP safely....u want more then that then u can put about 3-5K into your engine, but untill u are pushing the stock EJ20G i would just leve it alone..... <----put an EJ20G bottom end into a WRX last week ;) Matt Monson 02-22-2005, 08:28 PM Well, Tell me exactly how you are going to get 550hp out of this engine? The best tuners in the country are getting this on very seriously prepped cars. No offense, but if you are having to ask us such simple questions about this engine, I don't know that you are ready to come to the table with the big boys. 400chp on these cars is pretty easy, beyond that the expense goes up exponentially for every 50hp. You will totally rebuild this engine in it's entirety if you are serious about that HP #. And the only way to tell for sure what your engine is is the applied engine code sticker on the front of the timing belt cover, or on the back of the block. Most of these imported engines lose those stickers in the cleaning process. But I can say with much confidence that you are sitting on a 200ps EJ20G from a 1989-1994 Legacy Turbo. west005 02-23-2005, 01:08 AM I like knowing the parts I am using will be stronger than I need. I am at around 300whp now. I know for a fact with a strong engine and the right turbo you can push over 500 hp. A stock STi with the GT-35 (Kingpin) turbo kit can push 536whp easy. modded closed (EJ20) deck block have been tuned around 523. snowman4us 02-24-2005, 05:35 PM I like knowing the parts I am using will be stronger than I need. LOL, i like it how u say EASY they can make 500+WHP...its extreamly diff. to make that kind of power. Takes, many hours of dyno time, working on the car time, and allot of patience(sp?)... if u think its that easy to make 500WHP, why do you think there are so little cars making those numbers...there are over 80K member on this forum and less then a duzen(sp?) people on heare are making numbers over 500... so next time u think u can just a bigger turbo on and turn up the boost think again...if u dont belive me, go buy a T88 put in on ur car, turn up the boost and see what happends...;) im not trying to be an @ss. but im just trying to tell u its allot harder to make a car fast then ppl think it is. they think that these parts/kits are so easy to make/put together...why do u think it took cobb over a year to come out w/ a stage2 for the STi... kirill west005 02-24-2005, 11:08 PM Bro snowman, Don't be such an internet left wing reporter. That is not even what I said. I refuse to argue with online crazies just tryin to piss everyone off!!! Cobb is making AP products for people who want to be mild with tuning. Scoobie Steve 02-25-2005, 12:08 AM So what do you want to know west? If your ej20g will take 500whp. Well it wont. Have you seen the guts of the EJ257... If not its very impressive for a factory engine. The rods are very nice and way beefier then a G rod. If you want to make 500whp you need all new internals for the G block or a EJ257 engine. I hope you didnt buy that G block because its closed deck:rolleyes: west005 02-25-2005, 01:21 AM Is anyone listening????????? I am trying to find out exactly what I got, no claims have been made!!!!!!!!! Just chill! Obviously no one so far has answered anything. I am trying to find a source where engine codes can be looked up. Not arguements on the Internet. Scoobie Steve 02-25-2005, 02:10 AM The second post answered your question.....you can tell NOTHING from the serial number you posted. No one on this board can help you with just a serial number, sorry man. No one is arguing yet;) snowman4us 02-25-2005, 09:38 AM 09/94 - 08/95 GC8C48D EJ20G DW4HD WRX GC8C48D EJ20G DW4HE WRX GC8C48D EJ20G DW5HE WRX V-LIMITED GC8C47D EJ20G DW4HJ WRX type RA GC8C47D EJ20G DW4PJ WRX type RA STi Version GF8C58D EJ20G DW4NE WRX (wagon) GF8C58D EJ20G DW5NE WRX (wagon) GF8C58P EJ20G DX4NE WRX (wagon auto) GF8C58P EJ20G DX5NE WRX (wagon auto) 09/95-08/96 GC8C48D EJ20G ?????
