View Full Version : was bored.... so I waxed my ride
feiron 02-23-2005, 03:48 AM step 1: wash the car
step 2: clay bar
step 3: swirls remover
step 4: wax
step 5: sitting on my chair grunting about my back :p
when doing the hood I was in fully motivated..... til I reached the lower part of the car and started hurting my back and my legs.... but in the end it's all worth it.. Meguiar's NXT rocks!

What kind of building manager is that ? Are you renting ?
cwareing 02-23-2005, 02:19 PM Looking good Ron. Can someone explain this clay bar too me. Someone recently told me that my car could use it, to get rid of some wax swirls. I was like  Also, is that Maguires NXT the best stuff? How much does it cost?
Thanks guys
Chris
PS Evan, I love the sound of your car. I pride myself on knowing the Subaru sound, I I can tell your car apart from all the others, even before I see it. I must have seen you like 4 times yesterday. Good stuff.
amarpauld 02-23-2005, 02:25 PM I was wrong, sorry chris (as I mentioned, I was guessing), clay bar cleans the paint surface down to its pure paint self..
feiron 02-23-2005, 02:49 PM that's right... clay bar removes all of the contaminants that just wont go away with car wash soap...
use the back of your palm and feel the paint.. it should be smooth... if not then its either contaminated or bad paint
I learnt detailing the car after I saw BWCO's thread last summer... when he did the black ML... its wholly shiny
fukamoto 02-23-2005, 03:02 PM Clay bar is AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...i was skepticla when I first used it, but when you apply it on one part of the car and feel how smooth it is and feel another part of ur car w/o the clay bar, its crazy.
KIMUTAKU 02-23-2005, 07:11 PM should be doing mine soon.. how do you guys dry your car after washing it??.. i normally just leave it.. and wax it the next morning..
feiron 02-23-2005, 07:17 PM microfibre towel! .... they're magical
amarpauld 02-23-2005, 07:28 PM mine (microfibre) just ends up leaving a light smear of water everwhere :(
kool168 02-23-2005, 07:49 PM What kind of building manager is that ? Are you renting ?
yea i am renting an apartment. i was suprised when those crazy managers told me i can't wash my car in the parking... not even open a hood to check engine oil... they are crazy.. this is all i can say

***.. i don't know wut's wrong with watching TV loud during day time?
feiron 02-23-2005, 09:03 PM mine (microfibre) just ends up leaving a light smear of water everwhere :(
use the silicone blade to remove the water and leave the rest to the towel...
which brand do you use? some brand are just "microfibre"
amarpauld 02-23-2005, 09:24 PM lets see.. I just got this thing from crappy tire and it has a little tab on it saying "Microfiber" and 70% Polyester, 30% Polyamide. I assumed there wouldn't be a difference in brands..?
veightkiller 02-23-2005, 10:14 PM sweet...
im planning to do mine on saturday..but it depends on the weather...

that's just not right :furious: .... how do they expect you to inspect and wash your car then? .... better move out... those kind of managers should be fired!
ranger5oh 02-23-2005, 11:52 PM Nice ride.. I use NXT too.. best stuff out there!
feiron 02-24-2005, 12:03 AM I used canaruba turtle wax before... that thing just wont buff... that's why I never waxed the car.... NXT is surprisingly easy to buff
jstbstn 02-24-2005, 12:16 AM looks awesome man... I love my NXT!!!! I remember when it first came out and I got a sample of it at DTP. My entire car was done with gold class already for the show, and we did it twice... then just to compare we did a small section on an unnoticable section of the trunk after judging and couldn't believe that you could see a difference!!! And it makes carbon fiber shine like crazy!
Yenners 02-24-2005, 12:49 AM where do you live ? That is just stupid, i rent too and they have no problems with it. You should complain about it to your landlord. They will be able to help you. Most of the time these managers are just being asses so that they have less trouble for themselves.

if any of you have friends who are planning to study in Uvic, don't rent this place... this place really sucks...
by the way, if people planning to wax the car, wut kinda tools do we need?
like wut kinda cloths to apply the wax, wut kinda cleaner to get away the road dirt which can't clean by car wash soap?
which soft cloths are the best and wut brand of wax is the best?
i read something from this site:
http://www.autopia-carcare.com/
do the tools selling from this site reliable?
cwareing 02-24-2005, 02:17 AM Man that sucks Evan. Is that place on Shelbourne somewhere? My apartment is expensive, and we were forced to sign a lease. They have a hose and bucket for us to use out back. I wish we had covered parking though, $895 /month is a lot to pay without getting covered parking included. Oh well, when I move back to Van in 2 months I can steal the garage away from my Dad's 02 Legacy
This might be a stupid question, but where can you get said clay bars?
march 02-24-2005, 02:19 AM Ronald, nice job, I am planning to do my claybarring, and wax in the summer holidays.. So far, I just wash my car with the car washing detergent from crappy tires.!
feiron 02-24-2005, 04:28 AM I'm stuck with meguiar's products for the washing and waxing :D ... as for equipments, I use simoniz... (the pressure washer, cordless orbital buffer, microfible cloths, and terry towel cottons)
here's my simple steps to detailing:
the washing:
1. soak the car with a lot of water (dont jet spray)
2. wash the car in the shade with chrystal wash (meguiar's)
3. using a silicone blade, remove excess water (perfect for the windows)
4. let microfibre towels dry the rest
the deailing:
1. meguiar's clay bar :D .... spray plenty of the quick detailer (came with the bar) and rub the clay bar over the sprayed section until the paint is smooth like glass... never drop the clay bar!
2. dry the car completly
3. apply meguiar's swril remover with either an applicator foam or terry towel with mild pressure...
4. wait til it dries out completly, and buff with terry towel or microfibre cloth
5. apply the wax with the applicator foam (every wax has its own direction... read on the label for detail)... and avoid canaruba wax.. its a really good wax but takes forever to buff
6. using a microfibre cloth or buffer foam, buff the wax out :)
7. final touch, wipe the car again with a microfibre cloth
8. pray that it wont rain tommorow
