I got the old one out without much resistance... but now I CANNOT get the new one in (or the old) I've hit it with a hammer (rubber mallet), I've hit it with a regular hammer with the shift knob on, I've used the attach it to the linkage and pull back trick, I've pressed down as hard as I possibly could (used all my weight, like 220 lbs) and it STILL will NOT go in.

What the hell gives here?? Does it matter that its a 2005?? Maybe the ring is harder?? I cant figure this out!

Lots of grease on the ball? BIG rubber mallet? I had to bang on mine a few times, but it went in. If the ball on the end is the same size as the ball on the end of the one you pulled out, then you just need to hit it harder.

I finally got it in.. had to get someone to hold it while i beat it like it was trying to steal my car
