View Full Version : "special" trade in deal for '01-'03
Cholla 02-26-2005, 03:09 PM So I was just at the dealership picking up some parts in my '01 RS, and this salesman comes up to me and asks what year my car is. When I told him it was a 2001 he asked me if I had gotten the letter that went out to RS owners about a new "special" trade in deal for a WRX or STI. According to him they guarantee a certain higher trade in value as long as you trade for a WRX or STI.
I politely explained to him that I would never get rid of my GC8, and that he could go and **** himself.
But does anyone know if there is any validity to this. I think its BS, and i didn't get a letter.
Any thoughts?
Ghost Rider 02-26-2005, 03:12 PM jon mentioned this a month or so ago
crazyhorse 02-26-2005, 03:25 PM Tis true... If you're the original owner anyways. It's called the Guaranteed Trade In Program... they give you X amount for sure as well as $300 in suby bucks. Subaru literally writes the dealer a check for the car.
Oh.. but it applies to any new 05... and you'd get the $300 in subybucks even if you didn't trade your car but just bought a new one.
Cholla 02-26-2005, 03:31 PM So what do they do with all of these high milage RS's that people trade in?
crazyhorse 02-26-2005, 03:37 PM There's a limit on the mileage to get the guaranteed price... But the cars go to auction and the dealerships can buy them. (I work at a dealership)
Cholla 02-26-2005, 03:45 PM And then the dealerships fix them up and sell them again? It just doesnt seem like there is a good market for GC8s.
crazyhorse 02-26-2005, 04:17 PM Always a market for preowned Subarus! Because no one ever wants to trade them in... gotta get'em somehow.
codger 02-27-2005, 10:18 AM Is that a USA program only, or might it be available in Canada too?
BryanH 02-27-2005, 10:36 AM my guaranteed value was right at 15000...what a deal....I can get more at Carmax.
As mentioned before Subaru should not have done this so close on the heels of what was a good deal with the last program. This program is an absolute joke.
Rallycarperson 02-27-2005, 11:40 AM Do they work for any TSs by any chance? :D

Yes. We've received several GTP invitations by mail soliciting our 2003 TS Sport Wagon as a trade for a 2005 Subaru (but we're not biting because bugeye imprezas rule). ;)
Weemus 02-28-2005, 05:55 AM How throughly do they check the car when you trade it in?? Like I have a spun rod bearing (was going to do a V7 shortblock) but if I could get away with it I would but an STI.
crazyhorse 02-28-2005, 09:44 AM Please don't pull crap like that... That's completely unprofessional and very very immature. Would you like me to flog on that STi and take it up to redline a few times before you buy it?

Wow....for once you and I are in complete agreement.
Dude, if you effed up the car don't just pass on your problems. Its not gonna be a dealership that has to deal with it...its gonna be some kid that has all his money wrapped up in buying it and you are gonna screw him over.
bull3964 02-28-2005, 11:12 AM If subaru wants to entice me to trade my WRX in on another WRX, then they better well do something to change the WRX. I'm not going to downgrade to the hyundeyes face for essentially the same car underneath.
crazyhorse 02-28-2005, 11:26 AM Bryan: If you'd just admit to yourself that I'm always right we wouldn't disagree!!
Oh.. and drive an 05 before you say it's the same car as your 02. Quite a bit different feeling if you ask me. Minor changes sure.. but they're enough to notice a considerable difference. If you want a completely different car wait till about June then quit yer whining ;)
BryanH 02-28-2005, 11:34 AM If they come with a STI wagon I will suck up the lose and be the first in line....
jmnjn1 02-28-2005, 07:36 PM Any Idea if they will be offering this for the 04's. I am seriously considering a GT.
crazyhorse 02-28-2005, 07:40 PM Probably not anytime soon... Just go in and see what they'll work out for you. I know I can never have enough preowned Imprezas on our lot :)
Catsmeow 03-01-2005, 12:18 PM If you want a completely different car wait till about June ;)
PLEASE TELL US MORE!
Although I'm not terribly enthused about the styling of the 2004-2005 Imprezas, I need a car and am thinking of leasing a new Impreza RS in the next week or so .. but I would be willing to wait for an all-new model if significant cosmetic and drivetrain changes are in the works.
Will the rumored change in June be a facelift or will it be a new platform? I'm all ears.
crazyhorse 03-01-2005, 12:39 PM I was told entirely new... but the forester just gets a facelift which to me is odd since it's an impreza chasis... The wrx may get a 2.5L motor... the impreza drivetrain will more than likely stay the same... Right now the RS has a special lease program that just started today.. $1000 in lease cash on a standard RS... ;)
Acostafan 03-01-2005, 12:58 PM If it was all new we'd see it in Japan now or in the very near future. The only rumor that persists and makes any amount of sense is the 2.5l motor and even that is only RUMOR. Remember, a girl in hand is worth two at the bar. If you need a car now, buy one. If you can wait another 18-24 months for the next gen's, do it. The bugeye's seem to be gaining in popularity though they weren't very well liked at first. The 05's do have a different feel. I like my 02 better though. Better seats, better steering wheel IMO, better styling, no lean burn problems(some 04's and 05's have this problem, most do not). The only problem I know of on the 02's and 03's is the fuel leak problem in cold weather, but SOA fixed mine free.
Cliffs notes: Rumors are unsubstantiated, buy a car if you need one now.
Catsmeow 03-01-2005, 01:15 PM Right now the RS has a special lease program that just started today.. $1000 in lease cash on a standard RS.
How does this work? (I'm a leasing neophyte, having always purchased outright in the past). Is the lease $189/month for 48 months less $1000?? There isn't any mention yet of this new offer on Subaru's website.
Note to Acostafan: Thanks for the sound advice. :)
Siper2 03-01-2005, 01:37 PM Wow.
This is real? Cool deal!!
Too bad I have a '00.
With 117k on it.
Methinks I'm fluckstered. :p
crazyhorse 03-01-2005, 01:58 PM It's built into that monthly price probably... It's a sign and drive lease which means subaru pays your first months payment, etc... Rather hard to explain leasing I guess... but basically in the computer they're figuring the lease payment with $1000 down (from subaru) to get to whatever payment they're advertising. The residual would be the amount you can buy the car for after the end of the lease term. On subarus it's usually fairly realistic... The rates come out to be under 2.9% on most of the leases so it's not a bad option :)
Funker 03-01-2005, 11:14 PM Grrr, too bad my 01 RS got totaled.
Crash477 03-02-2005, 12:44 AM so what if I'm not the original owner? I have a 2002, that I need to sell so I can get a WRX. maybe trade in if the dealer has a good one
