Ok campers,

I need a little back up here. I have a 2001 RS and I have a friend that also has one atcually a 2000.

They are both Automatics and as boys will be boys we always seem to run them against each other.

Here is the problem he beats me every single time!!

Reason: He is running the rev's to 5-6,000 rpm and droping it into 1st.

My self I think he is plum nuts. He has about 20,000 miles on his and uses this as a standard launch technique.

Persoannaly I think this is not a good idea and dont do it, I have plans on adding a JC Sports turbo kit in a month or two and I would like to have a tranny to send the power too.

What is your opinion, I guess the more replies the better, I'm trying to save his little subie, and finally beat him;)

LOL,

Thats what I have tried telling him. I suggested maybe like 1,000 rpm (ie idle) he didnt get it.

One if those suborn engineer types, would figure he knows better.

Im okidoki with JC i only live 20 mins away.

I'm just wondering if I should offer him a ride home when he blows up. Keeps saying the way the diff works it wont hurt the car!!

MAYBE THE WALK WILL TEACH HIM A LEASON.

your friend is definately going to break his tranny if he keeps that up trust me I have an automatic L coupe and a 5 speed wrx.I've done it a couple of times and broke my tranny so it is not a good idea if he keeps doing it just a word of advice.aight

I've done it a few times just to experiment. It didn't help it one bit (at least from what the butt dyno could tell). The only "cool" thing that happened is it got the front tires to chirp, but big woop. We've got AWD, so why would we want them to chirp :p.

One day soon he's going to press the gas and the engine is going to rev up and he's going to be sitting there waiting for it to start moving...

"Ever been driving on a flat piece of road and had it sound like your driving up hill?"

You should try to get him all paranoid! Everytime your driving behind him tell him your seeing a light grey smoke from somewhere other than the tail pipe, then every time you get in the car, wait a minute or two, then start complaining about some strange stench, "like something's burning" You don't even have to make the connection to the Tranny, if he beats on the car like that I'm sure he'll have some stupid incident from the past week or two that he'll start to blame... Offer to buy his car for parts.

ok so I too drop it a 6k!! and did this 38 times so far. humm, I know it will blow. but it is so much fun. I am trying to brake it so I can get a stick. it won't give, whats wrong with this thing. can someone tell me how to brake it. I tryed stalling at 2.5k, nuetral droping, mudding, bouncing the rev limiter in first while doing doughnuts in the snow, power shifting, I put it in front weel drive and did a big burn out with the e-brake on and the help of some water. whats wrong with this thing. It won't break!!!

me can't spell:p

i dunno.. i seemed to fry my 4eat really well :)
hehehe.. torque converter, gears, the bands, yeah.. do a search it'll pop up ;) Right after kevin thomas' blew mine blew :D...
they arn't the strongest guys in the world, but they do put up a fight..
as for you gasser, try this one - i betcha haven't done it yet..
Go to a BIG old field, remove your locking button shifter, get the car going in reverse about 10-15 mph, cut the wheel hard, slam it into N, rev it to stink then slam it into one, that'll do wonders for your tranny hehehe.
Actually your's will die soon, just a matter of when, first it'll slip going into 3rd, then 2nd then eventually it'll slip big time.. and then you can convert LOL.
