View Full Version : How to fit APS DR500 FMIC to a GC8 bumper beam wise?
garface 02-28-2005, 01:48 PM I was just told I cannot use the APS bumper beam because it mounts differently for the GD. Now, my question is, can I use a JDM lightweight beam or hack the stock beam to work? Will this just bolt up to the JDM or USDM hacked GC beam or would I need to drill the holes and do other mods? Thanks.
keirnna 07-27-2005, 01:56 AM I need to know this as well I have the DR 725 and I want to use it on my GC8. I already have the JDM bumper beam.
garface 07-27-2005, 10:07 AM I haven't done this yet. From checking my piping here and there it seems like everything will fit except possibly the coolant reservoir they include, but it might just squeeze between the radiator and the piping . You might have to make the passenger side fender pass through a little bigger to fit the silicone pipe through. As far as the bumper beam, I'm just going to go ahead and get the JDM one. If it doesn't have holes in it I'll just mark them from the core and drill them. I'll put spacers or washers if the height is off, but should be ok. And I believe there are holes for the lower core brackets already in the chassis that line up. So besides trimming the bumper and maybe the fender hole, it should be pretty straight forward. People used to swear the GD front mounts wouldn't fit the GC without a lot of cutting and welding, but I don't think it's bad at all.
keirnna 07-27-2005, 10:33 AM Well then I am going to try and get my DR 725 to fit in my RSti. Keep me updated, but I'll be trying mine here this week most likely.
Blu25RS02 07-27-2005, 07:11 PM So are either of your APS FMIC's specific to pre 02's? There is supposed to be a kit for the earlier cars...also, where did you get yours? My conversion is almost done and I want to go with a front mount eventually and love the blacked out cores that the APS's have. Lemme know how it works out for both of you.
garface 07-27-2005, 07:51 PM Mine is for 02+ and the DR725 is GD specific. I purchased mine privately from another member. It was slightly used.
Blu25RS02 07-27-2005, 11:59 PM Interesting....thanks for the reply, please keep us posted on your progress.
jnorth85 12-05-2005, 03:40 PM do any of you guys have an update on this ?
UM-WRXer 12-08-2005, 10:42 PM I think you guys should be looking for FMIC's specifically designed for the GC8 chasi....Im pretty sure greddy makes one.....go to the manufacturers website, thats usually helpful
Wayne_Coots 12-09-2005, 06:47 AM I was also hoping to fit a larger APS unit to my GC. In my searching for info I have found nothing helpful, But I did Run into this interesting setup.

Look at the middle two pics in this one. The inlet ant output remain inside the engine bay. The IC sit in place of the rad. and moves the rad. back on custom mounts. It is made by a British Co. called Lateral performance.

There's no room for that if you have a GD swap. It is way too tight. Unless that's a GD engine in there, but I don't see where all that room came from.
garface 12-09-2005, 12:33 PM Doesn't look like you can have ac either now that I think about it. There's no place for the condensor.
PHATsuby 12-09-2005, 01:10 PM i dont get how the radiator is getting air flow, looks like the IC is tube and fin which is supposed to be better for flow through, but what if it was bar and plate, i was thinking of doing a similar setup but was told i would block all the flow to the radiator.

UM-WRXer 12-17-2005, 02:29 PM I still have my stock radiator hidden behind my tube and fin FMIC on my GC8.....after 15k no problems with overheating .......I was unable to keep my A/C though......there is simply not enough room
Freeman38 08-03-2008, 11:23 AM This thread is very old, but is there any new pictures or iformations about it ?
