checked back a few pages in here and in teh aftermarket turbo section to see if there have been any recent posts on the subject. legacy central wasn't that much of a help with this, either.

1. a built up legacy ej22t will be getting swapped into my '96 gf4. since i want all the effort put in once with this project, what are my best head options on this block? the LegT stocker is a restrictive SOHC, costwise am i better off getting different heads; if so other SOHC or DOHC, which ones; or do i have the stock head cleaned up and have everything redone, 3 way valve job, larger valves, stornger springs to allow for higher rpms?

2. on the injector side, would the do it urself injector mod work on the older LegT injectors just as it does on thewrx side fed injectors?

and while i have have ur half attention...

3. the '96 is a cable clutch, and like i said b4 this is getting opened once, so going with an STi 6spd, will i need to change over to a hydraulic clutch in addition to the pull setup?

thanks in advance.

I would go with a sohc head if you can find it. It's a lot cheaper to do cams,springs/retainers on that then doing a shim under and paying for another cam with a dohc setup. The problem is finding them.

the stock heads off the LegT blocks were sohc. so are the $$ beter spent on getting those heads cleaned up for bigger power or are there better SOHC heads.

any views, even dissenters who say go dohc/jdm?

The 2.5 rs heads flow really well there is an article on cobb tuning's website about this. The leg heads don't flow well at all. If you've got the money I would go jdm. I don't really see much advantage with the dohc vs the sohc heads. It's a lot cheaper if you want to do cams and raise the rev limit as well. TWE has some really nice head packages you might want to check with them.

You do realize that once you go standalone with this car you are no longer going to be able to pass inspection?

As far as the clutch goes you are going to have to add all of the hydrolic parts that are needed. You will need to check on how the linkage for the clutch attaches to the pedal box as you may or may not have to replace that too. It seems rather stupid to me that Subaru would have produced different pedal boxes but being that you have plenty of local Subarus to take a look at I would stick my head up under the dash and take some pictures of a WRX or an RS and compare them to the linkage on your L.

Why are you going with a Legacy engine and not something a little newer that will cost far less in the end? If you are interested I know of an inenxpensive TecII for sale.

c'mon, really  minor of all minor considerations.

1. aquired already and newer is not always better.
2. already have the TECIII

not that i am not against switching some part of the current scheme, but i'd like to better informed opinions and evidence to convince me. especialy i brought up teh cable clutch; it probably will work, just need to make sure, and if its easier to use a hydraulic setup, and have the added benefit of the extra sensitivity, its worth including from the beginning.

i should have LegT injector pics up later tonight.
