View Full Version : installed accessport
edo2000 03-01-2005, 11:37 AM Installed the Cobb Accessport last night, a quick and easy process. Didn't have much of chance to test it due to darkness, traffic, etc., but the power is a lot stronger and smoother. I'm using the California..low octane.., stage 2 map, both as the base and realtime map. This is definitely a worthwhile upgrade, seems to be a significantly larger bump in power than I got by installing an UP and DP at the same time.
I'll report on what happens as the ecu learns. Hopefully I wont see the low RPM stalling issue that some people are reporting on 04/05 wrx's running the latest version Cobb maps.
LowNSlowNeon 03-01-2005, 04:55 PM I got a question about that.... accessport has a lot of maps for 93 and 91 octane.. you think our crappy 90 octane will cause problems?....
If I end up getting a STi im not going to be doing much to it.. accessport and other small things.
Konvict 03-01-2005, 05:18 PM Horsepower is addictive. I remember saying that too.

Cobb has maps made specifically for California gas, which is crappy like ours. They should work fine in Alaska. At least one guy (Psylas) mentioned the Cali. maps have worked well for him.
Unfortunately, we probably can't use the real 91 oct. map, it would probably be too aggressive for our gas. I plan to be conservative, I want this engine to last a while...
Now, if my wife will bring my car back so I can drive it... her truck is in the shop.

You're a brave man and a sucker. :)

SQUAD_907 03-01-2005, 08:50 PM i've heard the ap maps aren't too agressive and kinda rich so u should try a 91 map and see if u have any runability issues...just a thought
AK*WRX*2004 03-01-2005, 09:19 PM Luckkyyyyyyy :p
ranger5oh 03-01-2005, 09:48 PM I am buying one very very soon... I thnk I am goingto get the StreetTuner software also... cant friggen wait!
EMSWRX 03-01-2005, 11:11 PM I've been running Accessport's VF34 91 Oct since the gas went from 92 to 90 and haven't had any issues yet. Although I haven't got on it like I would during the summer. SQUAD_907 is absolutly correct. Cobb made the maps to not be too aggressive. I don't see any problem with it. Give it a try, if you start ping'n or having problems, switch back to the cali map. Just my $.02......

Sorry I dont have an ap but i know Theshadow and wrxzolli have an ap running the cali maps...I had my heart set on an ap but now im leaning towards a utec :D

Thanks, I may just do that. It's just that I've been reading all this stuff about detonation that you can't notice and needing knock-link hardware to monitor it ... I don't want to be abusing my engine without knowing it. i don't even have an EGT yet... but soon.
EMSWRX: If you're not having problems at stage 2.5 with the 91 maps, that's encouraging. thanks.

Sorry, I guess it must have been theshadow I was thinking of. Good luck with the utec.
TheShadow 03-02-2005, 02:34 AM Yea I have it and I run stg 2 cali map. No knock at all RMPs, but with the regular 91 stg 2 map you will hear it hit the upper RPMs. The boost is definitely toned down with the cali map.
I just can't wait for summer to go splash some 104 in there. :/

yeah, I'm sure I'll be doing that, too. Because it's there. If you didn't know, Cobb just put the StreetTuner manual online: http://www.accessecu.com/support/st-wrx-userguide-100.pdf
-- it looks pretty good.
hirevn 03-02-2005, 01:10 PM im running stage 2 93 oct map in my sti with no issues, thanks to my alcohol injection :p l.o.l. when my alky tank gets empty i just go to the 91 map in realtime with no problems.think ive got over 10,000 miles on this setup and the car still does great.

Another option is to do the same thing with a Xylene or toulene mix. I noted the other day that even Valdez has these available at the lumber yard. :) Certainly not as seamless a change as you mention, but an option nonetheless.
I can easily see running the stock or CA gas map, and then a 93 octane map when you want to "feel the power".

axjms 03-03-2005, 05:12 AM I couldn't believe my eyes when I came home tonight and saw two big boxes with cobb tape leaning against my front door. I got my cobb stage 2!!! Yes!! And it only took 6 months! I looked at the packing slip and Nooo!! They sent me a catless DP. I ordered one with a cat. Oh well, I will have to exchange it. I have already installed the accessport though using the cali 91 base map. I will let you guys know how it feels tomorrow.

That is a very interesting link. It calculates needing nearly 4 gallons of alcohol to make a 14 gal tank of 93 oct, starting with 90 oct! That definitely makes the "on demand" alky systems very attractive. So you only run the higher octane mix when you're on boost. Hmm, alky system....
