FM transmitters that plug inline to your antenna sound better. About as good as a 128/kb MP3.

Dude: you're running a stock head unit and you're worrying about sound quality?!?
Anything that involves converting the iPod signal into FM and transmitting it over the air is going to sound like crap. This is particularly true if you live in a major metropolitan area and buy a transmitter that has limited frequency selection. Everyone I know who has tried the FM modulator has universally hated it...
My recommendation would be to go to Radio Shack and buy a cassette tape adapter. Save your receipt. Give it a try in your car. If it sounds like crap, return it and get your $10 back. If you want a stealth install, there's any article on ScoobyMods.com that shows how you can hide the wire that comes out of the tape deck.

The tape adapter is not going to charge the ipod, it will only plug into the headphone out jack. I don't know how the sound is, I assume it will not be cd quality, but its cheap and worth a try.
