I've recently picked up a 04 Subaru with 6 years / 100k miles extended warranty, and I have a question regarding the cancellation of the Added Care. I recently had the warranty transfered to me, and was told by the dealership that only the original perchaser can cancel this contract and request for a refund.
Is this true? Any second owners on this board had an experience cancelling their Subaru Added Security? How long does it take for the refund check to arrive in the mail? Do I need go to the original dealership and cancel it in person (I bought the vehicle from a guy that purchased the vehicle 200 Miles away)?
Thanks a bunch

Since it is in the interest of the dealership that you *not* cancel the Added Security, it's time to call SOA directly at their 800 number and find out the correct answers to your questions.

If you purchased the vehicle used with and extended contract, and the original owner had the contract that you transferred over, (you probably paid a small fee), you cannot receive the refund if you cancel it because you did not originally pay for it. The refund would go to the original owner. If you choose not to transfer it, it goes away.
Now, if you were the original owner and purchased the contract, you could request a refund, minus a small fee.
Basically, you cannot be refunded for something you did not pay for

Even if the extended warranty is sold as part of the vehicle selling price during the negotiation?

With all due respect (and I *do* respect your previous posts), this is silly logic. The new owner *did* pay for it when he bought the car and had it transferred over. I note that SOA has no problem honoring it to provide extended warranty repairs to the new owner.
Now, SOA can certainly refuse a refund to anyone but the original owner, but that is SOA's business decision and has nothing to do with any fairness or logic AFAIK.

If he paid more than the $50 or so transfer fee, then he probably paid for another contract for the extended warranty just as if he purchased one by himself (that didn't already exist). Check the paper work. If you paid more than the transfer fee, then you should be entitled to a full refund. Usually, they cannot charge you for the extended contract alreadly in existance because that gets "paid off" with the previous customers trade in. (or the previous customer paid the difference). When you purchase and extended warranty, it is usually included with the financing unless you paid cash. In either case, it gets paid for in full when you get rid of the car.
Another senario:
I know someone who had their rex totaled in an accident. She had never used her extended contract because she was no where near the end of her warranty. They sent her a check for the amount of the contract and she used it for her down payment on a new car.
