View Full Version : Matt Slap Dealership of Delaware 05ImprezaWRX 03-01-2005, 06:14 PM Has anyone here dealt with Matt Slap in Delaware. I would like to know any thoughts, good or bad. Autologic 03-01-2005, 08:09 PM I almost bought a 05 wrx wagon there. Long story short, I agreed to buy the car but during a 24 hour extended test drive my car (02 WRX) was flooded. My insurance company covered the cost of my car but I ended up not buying the car from Matt Slap. The reason I did not buy was the way I was treated at the dealership. When I originally looked at the car I was told one price and agreed on it. However, when it came time to buy it the dealer changed the price on me. I also found out that he had lied to me about not being able to take advantage of the Subaru financing. I was so pissed about almost being suckered out of a couple thousand dollars that I did not buy the car. I would recommend finding another dealer. Becker Subaru up in Allentown, PA seems like a much more reputable dealer and I will probably buy my next Subaru (if new) from them. 05ImprezaWRX 03-02-2005, 05:29 PM I guess to broaden this thread, does any have any good or bad thoughs/experiences on the dealerships in the Tri-State area. Specifically, are there any thoughts on the Matt Slap, Becker, Liberty, etc. dealerships? Any thoughts on the absolute, without a doubt, best dealership in the area? 20024door 03-02-2005, 11:06 PM I went to matt slap and didnt get the deal I wanted so I went to the one on 202 in PA and they were great. 05ImprezaWRX 03-02-2005, 11:20 PM What's the dealership's name on 202 in PA? mhaythor 03-04-2005, 11:36 PM For what it's worth - the 202 Dealership is Concord Nissan and Subaru. I had found them to be nice as far as sales staff. However, I needed parts for my WRX. I started at Delaware Subaru on Union St in Wilm - they were not at all capable of helping me find what I needed and turned out they didn't have it anyway. Concordville had rude staff at the parts counter; took awhile to find my gaskets on the computer, then didn't have them anyway. I drove to Matt Blatt - the guy in Parts was great and they had bins and bins of gaskets, they had all kinds of parts sitting right there. So, for Parts I was impressed with Matt Blatt. I have no experience with them for Sales or Service. wundej 03-12-2005, 11:07 AM Bought my STI at Matt Slap a little over a month ago. I was really happy with them, I dealt w/ Dave Clarke their internet sales manager. I was shocked at how laid back everything was, no pushy sales talk, let me take a *real* test drive in a used 04 they had. Got a great price and they even got the CGM for me from a dealer in pa on Ridge pike. From what I understand Concord Subaru is pretty good too. bliz 03-12-2005, 09:34 PM when i bought my 02 wrx,my wife and me went to matt slap the totally ignored us,so we went to concordville great experience. i went to matt slap to test drive a used 04 sti they would not let me test drive it.the guy said i could test drive a new one.i told him i was going to wait awhile to buy one,the salesman gave me attitude.you can just drive a new sti.i bought a brand new sti less than a month later at lancaster county motors.here is three time i tried with matt slap.i want to trade the sti in for 04 wrx(wifes car,she cant drive stick).the salesman said he would work the numbers and call back,no call, got the cold shoulder.i went to concordville again i got my 04 fxt.3 times matt slap screwed themselves out of the 3 sales.concordville is awesome. KevinWRX 03-13-2005, 09:55 AM Kinda off the topic of that dealership but my WRX was supposed to come from Matt Slap but they sold it right out from under us ( us being Faulkner Subaru in Bethlehem, PA), after all the paperwork was signed and everything was ready to go. Kinda PO'd Faulkner off a bit, they said they'd never deal with matt slap again after that one lol.. Becker is pretty cool( although when WRXs were hot they wouldnt let me test drive one, Faulkner did) , especially on service..Id go nowhere else for service.... wundej 03-13-2005, 11:44 AM I guess it all depends on who you deal with. I've heard both ends from people who dealt w/ matt slap. If I would have read some of the stuff around here before I went looking for a car I might have just went to Concordville. I initially went to slap b/c a friend bought his STI there from Dave, my friend looks pretty young and he thought they were cool so I figured they were decent to deal with (and were in my case). I've heard good and bad things about Becker, same with Faulkner. I was originally from the Allentown area and researched those guys before buying in DE since my parents still live up there. I'll probably end up going to Concordville for service just b/c they are closer to my work and people seem to like them a lot. zavigm 03-16-2005, 07:57 PM I've had pretty good luck with Matt Slap. I live right up Paper Mill road, too. When the STi's first came out and everyone was having trouble even getting a test drive in one, I went over there and said "first I want to drive a wrx, then I want to drive an STi" No problem sir! Got the keys went for a ride (best test drive ever, too) I was in the passenger seat first, He drove me down some windy roads so I could see the route that I would be taking back. It's the first time I ever held onto the "oh $#it" handles during a test drive. On the way back he was like my co driver "70 sweeping right, tight left, watch the off camber..." We got back and I really wanted to buy the car right then but I had to get some 3rd party financing straight so I told him I'd probably be back the next day and he was like "no problem" no pressure whatsoever. (if you feel like you're being ignored when you first walk around there, I think it's because they don't want to be the typical salesmen and pounce all over you like most car salesmen do when you're walking through their lot, rubbing their hands together, sharpening their claws) Went back the next day and bought the shiny silver one sitting in the showroom. (the wrb I test drove they decided they were just going to keep as their demo car and sell at a discount later) Very relaxed buying experience. Other than a few times of going in to buy oil filters I haven't had the need to go back, UNTIL TODAY! well a few weeks ago, my clutch started slipping under full boost and being at 31,500 mi. I decided to make an appointment to see if I could get it replaced under warranty. Dropped it off this morning, just heard from John Pharis (service manager) a couple of hours ago who said "yes it needs a new clutch" can you leave it till tomorrow, we'll do it. HELL yeah. of course he threw down the caveat that if there's any obvious signs of abuse when they get in there, they won't be able to cover it. I've never tracked it or drag raced it, just the occasional spirited drive and commuting to and from work so I'm not worried about it. And I've also had the annoying clunk from the rear suspension that many other STi owners have experienced and guess what? They ordered 2 new struts for me that will be replaced under warranty next week when they arrive. Rob is the Assistant service manager (forgot his last name) but he's very knowledable and a good guy too. Now to me sales is sales and you usually expect that part to be a little painful, which it wasn't but it could have been and I could have ended up with buyers remorse. I had originally went to look at the STi at Castle Subaru on rt 13 because it was close to Bank One in downtown wilminton so I jetted over on my lunchbreak. They had a black STi that I loved but they had it loaded with every option, carbon fiber trim, shift know, LOJAK, underbody coatings, extra new car smell. you get the picture. It added like 8k onto the price. I told them I really wanted it but they had to delete some of those options. They were like NO WAY. It'll sell. So then they tried to sell me a regular wrx, which I'm sure I would have loved anyways but I really wanted the STi. he kept pushing me on it (it was an automatic too which I really didn't want) they were like "yeah you do". Anyway I'm glad I left there with my senses and decided to check Matt Slap on the way home, considering it was right down the street from my house and I will definately buy our next Subaru from them, too. My salesmans name was Robert Farrell BTW. Another guy i work with has bought and sold like 5 cars from to and from them. he has a different sales guy, but I can't remember his name. Point of the story is the sales is only 1 day, be it good or bad you can usually get the same deal from any of them if you do your homework on KBB or edmunds. But the service department you'll be dealing with for the life of your car, and I'm pretty damn happy with the service department at Matt Slap. The only other thing I have read about Matt Slap on this board was about a year ago, I'm sure I could find the post if I searched. But a guy with a wrx had the clutch shuddar problem and he had 59985 miles on the ODO. (15 miles left on his powertrain warranty) and they replaced his clutch no questions asked. You know they could have taken it for a 15 mile diagnostic run and come back and said "couldn't replicate the problem" if they wanted to. EDIT: found the post...replaced his syncros, too. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4673858&highlight=Clutch+%22Matt+Slap%22#post4673858 Sorry such a long post, but I figured I'd share my positive experience with you guys. BTW- Delaware Subaru on 52 just changed from Delaware Mitsubishi, so they haven 't been in the Suby biz for long. Castle Subaru on 13 is now Castle Mitsubishi. my father in law's in construction and he's de-mitsubishi'ing and de-subarizing each dealer and then re-mitsubizing and re-subarizing the other. (in other words he's swapping signs for them, and the rest of the look, I guess) wrxin' 08-29-2005, 08:45 AM Ive bought 2 cars at Matt Slap, Dave Clark is great to deal with guys. They gave me the deal i wanted on my sti with trade in on my wrx....very good deal. I had 2nd gear in my wrx shatter (with exhaust an intake mods on the car) they replaced 2nd & 4th gears along with all the syncros under waranty!!!!, I had a problem with my STI around christmas time, 4th gear syncro went bad started grinding. Was fixed no questions asked. seem to be a mod friendly dealership. John Pharis is the biggest reason to go back :). one of the best parts/service guys i have had the pleasure of dealing with :) Car vs. Driver 08-29-2005, 02:36 PM Scott Humphries (sp?) is who I deal with over there, really good guy to work with. I highly recommend talking to him about a car. Tell 'em I sent you if you buy, I'll split the $100 with ya :) I've purchased 6 cars from him in the past 4 years - I would not go anywhere else, even if it wasn't a subaru (other used car). |
