Over the past few weeks I have driven several of Subaru's models at my local dealership. I decided on a Forester XT. This past Saturday morning I went to the dealership and asked if they could do a dealer-to-dealer trade to get the Forester I wanted. The salesman said he would need to get the general sales manager to set it up with the other dealership's GSM. Fine. Sounds easy enough.
But, then the saleman came back and said they had to leave a voice mail with the other GSM. They also added that "since it is Saturday we may not here back from them until Monday." The salesman also added that this other dealership is "hard to work with" and are "sons of bitches." Do what? Then the saleman tried to talk me into buying a model off of the lot--"Although you said you don't want the premium package, I am sure we can reach a price on this one we have on the lot."
First of all, I said I didn't want the premium package--and that should be final. I will not be pawed at by a car salesman. Second, I believe that is complete BS about not being able to reach another dealership. I have dealt with Acura, Toyota, Lexus, and Honda dealerships and have never had a problem with dealer-to-dealer trades.
Also, why would one dealership talk about another dealership that way? Even if the other dealership are SOBs you don't say that to a customer. I could have been turned completely off by Subaru in general by that unprofessional attitude.
I told them to forget it and they lost a sale. So, on Monday I drove 2 hours to the other dealership and purchased the Forester that I wanted.
