I thought about a regional board for this question but then it's actually applicable to any area - is there any best way to find someone who knows how to work on a WRX, esp. with mods?

My Subaru dealer won't deal with some of the aftermarket issues, and some local mechanics I know have said things like 'Sure, I can replace that part...although I've never actually seen a WRX engine before, it can't be that hard'

Any tips for finding people that really know abt. things like A/F ratio, ECU mapping, boost pressure, O2 sensors - on the WRX? Seems word-of-mouth is the only effective means, but I'm curious how many try 'speed shops' vs. dealers vs. yellow pages [etc] to locate qualified mechanics.

Talk to LOCALS. I wouldn't trust a generic speed shop. Many times you get hillbillys who assume the "Honda rules" apply to your Subaru. There's nothing more frustrating to hear than a new guy whose first mods are an intake and a manual boost controller which were recommended by his "experienced mechanic". If after talking to locals and you still need help, post in the applicable forums to where your questions are catered to.

Thanks- that's what I'm finding. Plenty of guys who 'know cars' but then scratch their heads when it comes to the WRX. I don't blame them, I do understand that it takes a specialized mechanic to be able to properly handle the car - referring to mods, aftermarket parts, etc.

I'll keep looking and keep my ears open locally.
