Well first of all, do you guys think the dealer will warrenty the work even though I have minor bolt ons? (up/downpipe) Has anybody had theirs replaced? If so where and how much did you have to fork out?? Thanks a lot guys. -Gene

why do you need cv joints??

no they are rarely warrantied, in fact subie just sent out a letter couple weeks ago that show how to tell when cv's failed from abuse. I guess STi's are busting their cv's launching, and they have cv's twice as big as wrx's!!

That sucks...

I keep on hearing a clicking noise when I'm at a stop turning either way. It only clicks about 6 times but it's there. I've read that people knew their diff. was blown when they "heard it" but a lot of the guys on the board think my CV joints are worn out. I’m not exactly sure what’s up with it but something is definitely wrong. -Gene

Heh, that would suck if that happened to me this summer. Is there anyway to upgrade that, or do you just wait until they break and then replace them?

at a stop cv won't click only while driving....sounds like something else...plus it's an 04 there's no way the boots could be torn open already!

DriveshaftShop.com!

$1600 for the front and rear axles! Aluminum driveshaft (at 12.6lbs is 9lbs lighter than stock) is $450. They even make driveshafts that can go from an STi 6-speed tranny to a WRX rear end, or from a 5-speed tranny to an STi rear end.

Yeah, I doubt your CV joints are having problems with a 2004. I've beat the **** out of my car rallying and the boots are still perfect.

My 1990 Chevy truck on the other hand, i'd go through a CV joint per year.

only time I've seen premature boot failure, when an exhaust leak melted the boot. I agree with squad, sounds like something else.

As far as avoiding breaking cv's, I believe most of the failures have been with DCCD set to auto, seems that a hard modded launch is more than DCCD can control, and the resulting power transfer back and forth makes them twist and break. Here's some more info wes

Yeah, I don't think I'll have any issues this summer. I use the auto setting because that gives me the best launch. I never drop the clutch, that's just stupid :alien:. I always slip it a little bit. Heh that guy with the STi that dropped it at 5k reminds me of Justin when he dropped his at 5k and broke the gears. I don't think dropping the clutch at 5k is a good idea :p .

Sounds like it could be a warranty issue? What else have you done to your car? If it's pretty much stock then I would take it to the dealer and have them check it out.
