Good ol' 87 octane for me. No problems yet, so I'm sticking with it. What are you all running?

Are there different octane ratings? Because here in chile, the lowest octane fuel we get is 93, then 95 and then 97. There used to be eighty-something octanes when we didn't use unleaded fuel...(In chile catalytic cars started going into the market in the early 90s, except for some cars imported for private use directly from the US or other countries)

So maybe there is some sort of measuring system in which 93 is equivalent to 87 and 95 to 89 and 97 to 93 or not?

Or is it that we just get better gas? (I doubt this last option anyway...)

I run 89.. just because it's not the cheapest stuff.. so I feel better about using it.. but I'm not going broke.

Most contries outside of North America use octane measure in RON. Here we use the anti-knock index (AKI). AKI = (MON + RON) / 2. The MON & RON numbers are the resistance the fuel has to ignition. One is under heavy load (MON I think) and the other is under light load. RON is higher than MON and hence higher than the AKI. That's why you see fuel in Europe and Japan with 95-100 octane.

87. Works fine as long as it's not cheap gas.

The one thing about modern Subaru Turbos is they gobble up Premium Unleaded to prevent pinging, in Washington state Premium's like 91 octane.

ANd went to 93, now i'm back to 94...this is all Sunoco of course:lol:

For the first month or three I ran nothing but 87... I switched one day because the 87/89 tank was empty at the local station. The reason I haven't switched back is because my car no longer stinks of sulphur when I stand on the gas.

I've got 92 octane right now. Stupid California has some supply issues that somehow led to 92 being replaced by 91(min WRX spec) octane.

Super unleaded 91 is about it here in Colorado. Very uncommon to find super with higher octane. In my tank it's usually Conoco, Texaco or Diamond Shamrock.

Sunoco Ultra 94 is the bomb. (no pun intended. ;) )

User either Amoco Ultimate 93(mostly) and Sunoco Ultra 94 every few tanks.

I've only seen 93 once. All the stations I can find only have 92. So thats what I get.

i usually go to Chevron.. and there is a 87 89 and 92 octane gas...

one day...

i go to 76.. w/"propower" and i decided i don't have enough money that day for 92.. so i'm thinking "i'll do 89"

i pay..

87 from texaco .. as there is a pump about 30 feet from my office...

i find that switchign brands makes a noticable differance ... so i try and keep the same stuff in it

Here's a question.....why do people with the NA EJ25 use anything higher than 87?

I've only ever put Sunoco gas in any of my cars... if I'm in a pinch I'd use mobil as well. Right now I'm using Sunoco 93 religiously.

My question is.. is there a noticeable difference between 93 and 94? Besides the price? :)

After I added CAI and exhaust it was idling/running a bit rough on 87, tried 89 and it liked it better. I tried 93 but it didn't make any difference so why spend the extra coin?

Either Cheveron or 76 for the 93 Octane!

I prefer the 76 juice.

Rotten Robbie 92 - it's the highest Octane I can find, it's cheap (er) and the car runs good. I put one tank of generic gas in from Felton (mountain town)...got CEL! CEL went off after I went back to Rotten Robbie. Coincidence? dunno.

I use 89 in my RS because I was under the impression that it was the min. specified in the manual - I would double check right now, but the i-club beats the pants off any damn stinkin' manual.

Because no matter WHAT the manual states, my car runs better on it. No more sulphur stink. A lot less hesitation. Blah blah. It just works better for me. In my '92 Legacy Texaco Super was the ONLY gas I could run and avoid pinging.

It's worse for the environment too, the higher octane pollutes more when it's refined.

I used to be NA and EJ25 and I used 93 octane. I had tip-indetonation when I nailed it from a stop with my intake on there, so I had to switch.

Let's get this straight.

The best octane is what runs best in your INDIVIDUAL car. PERIOD.

If your car doesn't like 87, it's NOT the best fuel.

Since we're on the subject, can anyone explain the differences? The guy at the dealer said you'll notice a performance difference between 87 and 89, but not between 89 and 92+

Any truth to this, or any extra info?
