I would have reflexively said no, but since my dealer once took care of an alignment as "under warranty" I'm not sure...
I just don't want to bring it to the dealer and have to pay $$$ when if its not under warranty I could have had my guy do them a lot cheaper.
Thanks...

The general answer is no. However, some people have lucked out and had them covered. But my guess is that the dealer suspected some other issue with the brakes having caused premature pad wear, and swapped the pads as a goodwill gesture, along with fixing whatever the main issue may have been.
If you are still in the warranty period, then yes - wear items are indeed covered. I had my fronts done under warranty (wore out at 18 or 19k miles) If you read Subaru's policy:
Wear Item Limited Warranty
Wear item coverage for all models is 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Items covered include brake pad/shoe linings, clutch disk linings, and wiper blades.

That's good to know.

Mine's a lease and I got the dealer to throw in the upgraded warranty, so I think I'm covered to 45k or 3 yrs (It's a 3 yr 15k/yr lease). I'm coming up dangerously close to 36k so I should probably get it checked out...

I'm pretty sure the extended warranty *does not* cover wear items.

Well I'm still within 3/36 so hopefully it'll be covered... Dropped it off tonight so we shall see.
