Can you install a sunroof from a 2000 RS into an impreza L sedan? I know that I would have to cut the roof, but other than that, is it that hard to do?

a shop that installs sunroofs will install products they are familiar with.

I don't get the attraction with sunroofs. Just another thing to go wrong.

Sunroofs give a more luxurious look. Glass ones let in light when its not too hot. You can pop up the rear and have good air circulation without much noise.

They add weight, leaks and reduce structural integrety and headroom.

I would like one but not going to pay for it.

Best bet would be to go to an aftermarket shop and use the brand they know. Ask about adding in roof braces to keep the roof strong. Some shop do and some may not.

I hate to agree with these guys, but if you install it non-factory, then it will leak. Depending on how bad you want this, then you can cut off the whole roof and do it that way.

New car manufacturers should offer sunroofs as a delete option, because I would pay extra to get a car without a sunroof. Adding weight, reducing stiffness, and risking leaks just aren't things that interest me.

On the other hand, I would never buy a new car, so they probably don't want to take marketing advice from me.

depends on the installer. i've known people who have aftermarket sunroofs that haven't leaked in almost a decades of use. the sunroof ij my L was fine after they put a gasket in that they didn't mistakenly cut.

Apparently the GC roofs are bolted and tack-welded on. You could probably swap the entire roof much easier than trying to swap just the sunroof.

Intersesting. Thanks for all the replies. I will let you guys know if this happens and how it goes. And I'm going to look into swapping the entire roof. It might sound a little easier.

PM me for details.

Why not make it a T top, which look like this guy did http://www.xcceleration.com/engine-packages-upgrades.html
though that is a 2 door, not sure if your ride is.

good god man, cxxeleration is the biggest ripoff place evah!
that car is a photoshop iirc. the impreza roof stctural parts ar the frame that runs above teh door and a bar that runs from side to side in the center. i asked the shop that did my sunroof, they said more that half of my rigidity would be gone if the roof was hacked for a t bar roof, let alone a targa.
