View Full Version : Best Price for 7yr/100k Gold Plus Extended Warranty
stoicwrx 03-12-2005, 05:52 PM I am contemplating buying a 7yr/100k Extended Warrnaty from Subaru for my 2002 WRX wagon. Does any body recommend a dealer that sells these plans at a discount?
My original dealer wants $1950 for a 0$ deductible 7yr/100k Gold Plus Extended Warranty plus an additional $250 for the Turbo for a total of $2200.
I heard som dealers give refunds if the warranty is never used.
Thanks,
Denis

armand1 03-12-2005, 10:40 PM You should be able to get 30-40% off list (maybe not off the turbo surcharge, though). Hopefully, your dealer is not the one in San Jose! For what you want, it looks like $2000 total is already about 20% off MSRP. You could probably get one from www.subaruwrxparts.com for close to that price.
Check out Santa Cruz and Carlson (and any others you want), but deal with them by emailing their finance guy/gal with the specifics on what warranty you want, that you've already gotten a quote of $2000 over the internet, and that you're checking with a half dozen dealers and will go with the lowest price. Once you've got a good price, verify it by phone, go to the dealership and close the deal.

1750 for 6yrs 100,000 miles
1SIKWRX4U2NV 03-13-2005, 06:50 PM if you have ANY mods on your car this is a complete waste of money...especially in california where the dealerships deny warranty claims on tranny's that go bad because "modified intake / cat-back exhaust boost hp above what the car was intended to handle."
:alien: GOTTA LOVE SOA! :alien:
I have extended warranty till 6yrs/60,000 miles.
Just went to the dealer today for three things:
1) clutch cranking noise problem, happened three times this month.
Noise went away after the car cool down for 20-25 mins.
2) white smoke comming out from the engine bay
3) dash board rattle noise.
I knew the clutch is not cover.
But I did not know there is an inspection fees.
The person put down an estimate to the problems above as follow.
1) $60
2) $60
3) $120
I am still not 100% sure what these estimate means and why the estimate is $120 for the dash board rattle noise and only $60 + $60 for both the clutch problems.
They said if they found and be able to verify the problem, then the parts and labor will went into the estimate.
However, if they cannot reproduce the problem, they will charge an inspection fees, probably more likely the estimate price.
So, I told them forget the dash noise, I am not going to pay $120 to fix it.
Turns out the white smoke was engine oil leaking from the oil filter to the exhaust pipe. So, the call me up and said they can do a oil change to put a Subaru filter on should fix it.
They did a test drive and said the clutch is fine.
Ended up I still need to pay $24 for the inspection.
Many clutch shop offer free inspection, why should I go to the dealer?
May be I can do a free inspection in a local clutch shop to verify the problem before going to the dealer????
I looked up the extened warraty booklet, I wonder what is exactly covered?
I am now thinking to cancell the extended warranty.

Yes, I did ened up need to pay the minium inspection fees ($24.xx) since they only did a test drive and did not open up the clutch.
Now, after looking at the warranty booklet, here is what is not cover:
Glass, weatherstrip, lenss, sealed beams, light bulbs, tires, hard and soft trims, modlings, bright metal, upholstery, paint, exhaust system, catalytic coverter, brake rotors and shock absorbers, battery, rust damage, wind noise, squeaks, rattles and cable or linkage adjustments, betls, coolant, spark plugs.
Correct me if I am wrong, looks like except the egine internals, nothing is covered.
Paid thousands for the extended warranty, and I still need to pay the inspection fees??
I thought the extended warranty is the extension of the original warranty, looks like I am wrong.
I am thinking may be I should cancell the extended warranty.
